List 3 ways that people use land

- Business
- Industrial
- Agricultural

What are 3 problems that can occur when topsoil is not properly managed?
- Poor soil management can lead to 3 problems: soil erosion, nutrient depletion, and
desertification.

Describe the effects of Strip Mining

- Strip mining destroys the area, forests and wildlife areas in the mine area where trees, plants, and
topsoil are removed from the mine area. This leads to soil erosion and degradation of arable land. When
rains wash the loose topsoil into streams, debris pollutes the waterways.
A worst form of mining, in nature, because as the name implies a long line of rock or soil removed from
a large loop corresponding to the surface curves of the earth and the property is taken and discarded
elsewhere, after all the essentials. minerals, or metals have been removed. This is repeated, and more,
deeper, and deeper, and wider, and more, until a great scar is created in the earth. In this type of mine,
no tunnels, or mines, are drilled.

Describe two methods for reducing Soil Erosion

Plant grass and trees - Empty soils are easily eroded by air and water, which are two major causes of
erosion. The roots of the plants hold the soil together, while their leaves block the rain and prevent
them from breaking up the soil.
Reduce farming - Deep plowing, often results in a compacted soil that is vulnerable to erosion, which is
overgrown with fertile soil.
