Dear USC Canada Booth,

I am unequivocally impressed by the ingenuity and high-caliber manner of your initiatives and programs imposed to
advocate for food security. I wholeheartedly concur with the suppositions you have generated regarding genetically modified
crops, artificial selection, and food security, and am proffering my time with you.

In correspondence with your assertion on Genetically modified crops, I believe that GM crops require costly and exorbitant
fertilizers and pesticides to grow. In contrast, local and traditional crop alternatives tend to be affordable and accessible. This
is especially advantageous for less developed countries that obtain great solicitude regarding food security. Furthermore,
non-GM crops are destitute of virulent pesticides, implying that consuming non-GM foods would avert the ingestion of
chemicals, thereby improving the rates of food security. Moreover, I comply with your claim that GM crops contribute to
biodiversity declines and spark the vulnerability of crops to pests, diseases, and climate shifts due to upholding homogeneity
in genes and encouraging large-scale monocultures. Additionally, per your declaration, GM seeds pose a colossal threat to a
species' natural ability to reproduce. For example, the production of inbred and homozygous lines minimizes the quantity
of genetic variety in each subsequent generation, hence leading to biodiversity loss. An ecosystem's tolerance to insects,
pathogens, and climate change is increased by the variety of vegetation. Every plant species serves a significant role within
the ecosystem. To boost climate resilience and decrease the effects of harsh climate conditions, a wide variety of plant species
are crucial. Lastly, I coincide with your claim that farmers are agricultural acumens and can enhance productivity. Local
farmers generate their green manures, seed compost, and field compost, conserve seeds, grow and process animal feed that is
produced on the farm, increase resilience by preserving seeds that are compatible with the ecosystem, etc… Therefore,
farmers operate in a feasible, sustainable, and efficient manner.
Given our shared values, I bring this letter to a close and would like to express my gratitude for your consideration and time.
Thank you for your resolute commitment to this critical case and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Gabriella Philips
