is a follow spot (seguidor) on him. The book is in the front down center and a light is
lighting it from the front. The rest of the stage is kept in the dark until the 2 song

JACQUIMO : Once upon a time there was a lonely

woman who wanted to have a child. One day she visited a
good mysterious witch who brought her a tiny seed.
“Plant it in a pot and give it lots of water and it will grow
she said, “and see what happens.” The woman did as she
told day after day until at last…a flower bloomed and a
tiny little girl appeared inside. All the animals and
insects in the farm loved her and took very special care
of her!

Thumbelina. But can you imagine the troubles for a little
girl no bigger than your thumb, hmm?

A pillow is placed in the center and Thumbelina jumps on it before the lights turn on.
THUMBELINA (talking to the audience)
THUMBELINA : Last night my mother told me a story

about the noble dog who saved the king from a big bad
bear and I said….Oh, mother please… Are there any
stories about – about little people? She said that there
are and she showed me these.
The big book enters and it is opened on the page with the picture of a very small
boy.
THUMBELINA : Look! He is little, just like me but do

you think he exists? My mother said they’re fairies and
they live in the valley of the fairies. I wish I could see
them and find someone my size and…live happily ever
after. Well, that’s not fair. I – I – I must be the only
little person in the whole world. I wish I were big.

Oh, it is bedtime. It's been a long day. I must go to
sleep now. I will leave the book open. I want to look at
the pictures while I go to sleep. Maybe I will dream with
