POLICY
To address volunteer concerns in a timely and professional manner to ensure
volunteer concerns are discussed and to ensure that facility policies and procedures are followed by volunteers.
PROCEDURE
1. Volunteers are required to show up for their assignment or call the
Volunteer Coordinator or delegate if they are not available to come in, giving as much notice as possible.
2. Volunteers must abide by all policies in the facility as discussed at the
Volunteer Orientation. These include: the Residents Bill of Rights, Confidentiality, Job Description, Abuse Policy, etc. The Volunteer Manual is available in the volunteer office and our Administrative Manual is available from the Volunteer Coordinator anytime for reference.
3. Volunteers assignments may change if:
a. A volunteer request a new position and there is an appropriate match and place available b. The position is no longer needed or the assignment is finished c. If a concern is raised and the volunteer and/or Volunteer Coordinator deem this necessary
4. Concerns raised regarding volunteers will be discussed verbally or written
and followed up by the Volunteer Coordinator and/or Program Director with the volunteer. Concerns will be recorded in the volunteer’s confidential file.
5. Concerns will be addressed through discussion, post-incident debriefing,
review of polices, education, re-assignment or dismissal depending on the nature of the concern.
6. If a volunteer presents a danger to himself/herself, to other volunteers,
residents, students, staff, etc, or presents a threat to health and safety in the facility, such a volunteer will be dismissed immediately and required to leave the premises. The police will be contacted if necessary.
