Dear Demiroski,
DEMERIT POINT REMINDER
On 17 October 2023, a notice was sent to you about your demerit points. It stated that your licence or learner
permit will be suspended unless you choose the extended demerit point period.
As of the date of this letter, you haven’t contacted us to choose the extended demerit point period.
What do you need to do?
If you want to choose the extended demerit point period, you must do this by 15 November 2023.
If you don’t, your driver licence/learner permit will be suspended from 16 November 2023, until midnight on 15
February 2024. This is prescribed by legislation and can’t be changed.
What happens next?
If you choose the extended demerit point period, for 12 months you’ll need to modify your driving behaviour
and not commit any driving offences. Your licence/learner permit will be suspended for 6 months (double the
suspension length originally offered) if, during that time, you:
have your licence/learner permit suspended or cancelled for a driving offence, or
get any demerit points.
If you don’t want to choose the extended period, you don’t need to do anything–just don’t drive once the
suspension has started.
How to choose the extended demerit point period
1. Read all the information included in this notice and make sure you definitely want the extended demerit
point period.
After you’ve chosen the extended demerit point period, it’s final and can’t be undone if you
change your mind.
2. Call 1300 555 325 (24/7 service) and follow the prompts.
3. Enter the following using your phone:
Your driver licence/learner permit number: 012434710
Your date of birth (e.g. if it’s 8 July 1993, enter 08071993)
Your PIN: 1710
When you’ve successfully chosen the extended demerit point period, you will receive a receipt number. Make
sure you record this.
You will be sent a letter confirming that you have successfully chosen the extended demerit point period.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
What do I do with my licence/learner permit card if it’s suspended?
If your licence/learner permit is suspended, you must return your card/s within 14 days of your suspension
starting. If your card’s been lost or stolen, we need a statutory declaration confirming this.
Mail your card (or statutory declaration) to VicRoads GPO Box 1644, Melbourne VIC 3001, or hand it in at
any VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
What happens to my Ps?
If your licence is suspended by reaching or exceeding the demerit point limit while you’re on your Ps, your P1
or P2 period will be extended by the suspension period.
What happens if my licence/learner permit expires during my extended demerit point period?
If your licence/learner permit expires during your extended demerit point period, you must not drive until it’s
been renewed. Meanwhile, your extended demerit point period will continue.
What happens if I get another suspension/cancellation during my extended demerit point period?
You must not drive until your suspension/cancellation has ended. During this time, your extended demerit
point period will continue.
Your appeal rights
You may appeal a demerit point suspension to a Magistrate’s Court on either or both of the following grounds:
that the demerit points were recorded other than as required by law;
that an error has been made in the addition of demerit points you incurred in the relevant period.
These are the only grounds on which you can appeal a suspension.
You may also apply to the Magistrates’ Court for a ‘stay’ (pausing) of the suspension until the appeal is
determined.
The court can only stay your suspension if it is satisfied that your appeal has a reasonable prospect of
success and, in the three years prior to your application, your driver licence/learner permit hasn’t been
suspended or cancelled. Lodging an appeal does not automatically pause the suspension.
An appeal must be made within 28 days after the date on which the suspension starts. You must give written
notice of the appeal to a registrar of the Magistrates’ Court, asking the registrar to endorse a copy of the
notice with the date on which the appeal is to be heard.
You must then provide a copy of the endorsed notice so that it is received not less than 14 days before the
hearing date, by:
emailing it to dpa@roads.vic.gov.au, or
mailing it to Demerit Points and Offence Management, Locked Bag 7000, Kew VIC 3101.
If you lose or abandon an appeal or withdraw an appeal less than four days before the hearing date, we may
claim costs and the Court, in its discretion, may order you to pay costs.
Contesting your demerit points
You can’t contest individual demerit point offences with VicRoads. Instead, you need to do this with the
agency that issued the infringement (e.g. Fines Victoria) or via court proceedings.
