INTRODUCTION

In today’s lesson, we will be able to

tackle the differences and similarities
between Social Sciences, Natural Science
and Humanities and find out the
Historical Background of this three,
learn the branches of Natural Science,
and know who is Hobbes, Locke, and

contributed to our topic
INTRODUCTION

In the vast landscape of human

understanding, three main branches of
study stand out, each with its unique lens
through which to comprehend the world:
Social Science, Natural Science and
Humanities. These disciplines, while
interconnected in their pursuit of
knowledge, diverge in their methodologies,
focuses and interpretation.
SOCIAL SCIENCE
Social Science is a branch of science
devoted to the study of societies and the
relationships among individuals within
those sciences.

It also seek to understand the evolving

human systems across our increasingly
complex world and how our planet can be
more sustainably manage.
FATHER OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

David Émile Durkheim was

a French sociologist.
Durkheim formally
established the academic
discipline of sociology
and is commonly cited as
one of the principal
architects of modern
social science, along with
both Karl Marx and Max
DAVID EMILE DURKEHIM Weber.

NATURAL SCIENCE

Natural Science is a branch of science that deals

with the Physical World.

It is concerned with the description, understanding and

prediction of natural phenomena, based on empirical
evidence from observation and experimentation.

Natural science is a scientific discipline that focuses on

investigating, describing, explaining, and predicting
occurrences in nature.
TWO MAIN Life Science- a branch of science

BRANCHES OF (such as biology, medicine, and

sometimes anthropology or
NATURAL SCIENCE sociology) that deals with living
organisms and life processes.

Physical Science- the sciences

inanimate natural objects, including
Life Science and
physics, chemistry, astronomy, and
Physical Science related subjects.
FATHER OF NATURAL SCIENCE

Aristotle is acknowledged to
be the founding father of
natural science in Western
culture. Aristotle introduced
the idea of doing
experiments in order to
understand the natural
world. For Aristotle, natural
ARISTOTLE science was the same as
natural philosophy.
THE HISTORY OF NATURAL
SCIENCE
Aristotle, a Greek philosopher and
mathematician, significantly
contributed to the development of
natural science during 400 BC. His
studies in biology, physics, nature, and
astronomy led to groundbreaking
scientific advancements. Aristotle's
research influenced numerous
philosophers and scientists, creating a
strong foundation in the field of
nature. He is considered the father of
biology due to his groundbreaking work
on lifeforms.
HUMANITIES

Humanities is a branch of knowledge that investigate human

beings, their culture and their self expression.
Humanities, those branches of knowledge that concern
themselves with human beings and their culture or with
analytic and critical methods of inquiry derived from an
appreciation of human values and of the unique ability of the
human spirit to express itself.

THE HISTORY OF
HUMANITIES

In the West, the history of the

humanities can be traced to
ancient Greece, as the basis of a
broad education for citizens.
During Roman times, the concept
of the seven liberal arts evolved,
involving grammar, rhetoric and
logic (the trivium), along with
arithmetic, geometry, astronomy
and music (the quadrivium).
SIMILARITIES OF SOCIAL SCIENCE, NATURAL
SCIENCE AND HUMANITIES

Are major disciplines that deal with human beings and their culture
They study society and human relationships
They all use research methods and techniques to gather and analyze
data
They are all concerned with a specific phenomenon
They all employ systematic inquiry, critical thinking and evidence-
based reasoning to explore their respective subjects
THE DIFFERENCES OF SOCIAL SCIENCE,
NATURAL SCIENCE AND HUMANITIES

They are different on their focus and approaches, Social

Science studies people as individualy and relationship,
Natural Science uses empirical evidence from observation
and experimentation tp understand the physical world,
while humanities investigates human beings, their culture
and their self-expression
