LAB Reflection

1. List 4 items/areas that you learned about today that you did not previously know
a. I learned that individuals diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy have difficulty
understanding Braille due to their diminished tactile sensation.
b. I learned how to spell my first and last name in Braille!
c. I learned how to properly guide a blind/low-vision individual if asked for
assistance.
d. I learned how to properly operate the low-vision assistive technology that we
were shown including the DaVinci Pro as well as several other products.

2. List 4 things you thought you did well today


a. I did very well with following instructions to make my own peanut butter and
jelly sandwich while being blindfolded.
b. I managed the Braille typewriter well to type my name out after being given
instructions.
c. I utilized my active listening skills well throughout each group and thoroughly
enjoyed my experience.
d. I was a good guide when participating in the orientation and mobility group
where I had to guide my partner blindfolded around the building.

3. List 4 areas you can improve (ex. knowledge, professionalism, speaking up, speaking
less, asking questions, being concise, critical thinking, problem solving, stress
management, etc)
a. I could have asked more questions in the moment when I was going through the
groups.
b. I could have done more research before visiting the facility because I believe this
would have enhanced my experience even more.
c. I could enhance my critical thinking skills to ask more in-depth questions in the
future.
d. I could enhance my problem-solving skills because I noticed it was harder for me
to manage common tasks when blindfolded so I had to adjust and find
alternative ways on the spot.
