Our company will use hydroponics to cultivate

herbs and turn them into herbal balms and teas.
Hydroponics is the method of growing plants
without soil using a water-based solution. It is a
hybrid method of plant cultivation. Hydroponics
produces crops with a greater sustainable quality.
Our hydroponically produced herbs can be a
promising aid in clearing congestion, sore throats,
coughs, skin inflammations, and other health
problems.

About Setup

For our hydroponics set up, we used a plastic tub to

grow our Vervain, Lavender and Wild Pansy plants.
We filled the tub with water, and added the air stone
and external air pump for water circulation and to
prevent the water from being stagnant. Finally we
inserted our seeds in a Styrofoam platform and the
roots grew underneath the water as shown in the
figure on the right.

Production Process
Hydroponics Setup
To create a nutrient solution system for herbs,
we chose a deep storage container and drill holes
into the lid to allow roots to grow through. We
used a hole saw to drill holes in the container lid,
ensuring the net pots were larger than the hole
to prevent them from falling through. We put in
equal parts of nutrient supplement which boosts
plant growth without the risk of any bacteria or
disease development.
Then we assembled an air pump outside the
reservoir, equipped with a check valve to prevent
water back-up, and kept the pump above the
water level. After that we connected the air stone
and checked the valve with tubing, ensuring the
valve's arrow faces the air stone.
Next, we filled the reservoir, added nutrients,
and adjusted the pH. We kept the pump outside
the reservoir, equipped with a check valve to

with the soil substitutes and the seeds
themselves.

Lavender Balm
We combined dried lavender flowers and
carrier oil over simmering water to infuse the
lavender's properties into the oil.
After that, we strained the oil using a cloth or
a mesh strainer to remove the lavender
flowers and extract as much oil as possible.
We measured the infused oil and added
beeswax pellets or grated beeswax at a ratio
of 1:4.
We melted the oil and beeswax mixture until
the beeswax dissolved completely and stirred.
We checked the consistency by placing a
small spoonful of the salve in the freezer for a
few minutes. 6. Finally we poured the mixture
into clean glass jars.
We then allowed the lavender salve to cool
and solidify at room temperature for a few
hours.
We finally labeled the containers and stored
them in a cool, dark place.

Rosemary Salve
First we infuse the rosemary leaves in
the avocado oil. To do this, we let the
fresh leaves dry for at least a day or
two before infusing.
Then we place the dry leaves in a
glass jar and cover it completely with
avocado oil.
Next we strain the leaves with a
strainer. The infused oil is then ready
to make into a salve.
To speed up the infusion process, we
slowly heat the oil in a slow cooker on
low heat for 24 – 48 hours.
Then we combine the beeswax and
the infused oil and heat until the
beeswax is completely melted and
stir it.
We then pour the mixture into small
glass jars and let it cool down. 09
The salve is then ready to label, date
and store.

PRODUCT
Our products can be sold all year round as they are balms
and teas you can use daily. Our products are not affected by
weather changes since we use hydroponics which enables
us to control external factors. We will be starting up a
website, an app, and a store soon. We will be setting up
stores in malls and will be partnering up with prominent
social media fitness influencers and dermatology doctors.
With the help of social media and our website, we will
spread the word about our product and persuade our target
audience. Our target audience consists of people who are
health-conscious and are willing to shift from allopathy to
herbal medicine.
PRICE
We will target the upper middle class and above for our
market as the infrastructure and the equipment used to
make our products will be expensive and thus we can’t
cut off our price to the minimum. Since we are a herbal
medicinal business, we would target the people who care
about their well-being and health. People want to switch
to herbal medicinal products from allopathic products
due to its long-lasting side effects, thus the herbal
industry is a growing market. For our products, we will
be charging them at a reasonable price, for example,
vervain tea for 350 rupees per 50 grams, lavender salve
for 450 rupees, and viola tricolour balm for 600 rupees.

Since our product is a high-end product, we will sell it on
our website, or in a store that sells products in a similar
price range as ours. Customers prefer to purchase high-
end or expensive products to set themselves in an
economical price range. Therefore, if we sell our
products at the prices set at local medical stores or
Amazon, they will not sell and will result in a loss for our
business. Our target customers being wealthier will have
more disposable income enabling them to pay for our
product. They will also understand the value of our
product increasing the chances of them buying it.
PROMOTION
Our business makes herbal medicinal products using an organic
method to grow raw materials which is hydroponics. Our
consumers won't develop soil-borne diseases using our product
due to the process we use to grow our herbs; hydroponics. We
grow our plants in water instead of soil, decreasing the chances
of infestation to none. This method is also safe as it doesn’t
include any use of pesticides. Although our products may take
more time to heal than allopathy, herbal medicines are more
efficient and healthier than allopathic products as they heal

issues from their roots. Unlike allopathic medicinal products,
there are no side effects and results last for a longer period of
time. Our product will be more helpful to those who are more
health-conscious and want to switch to herbal products.
