GENERAL H.S.

E INDUCTION

1. Each employee remains responsible for his own Health and Safety and for those around him.
2. A copy of all applicable legislation along with the company’s procedures is available to all employees.
3. Always follow instructions from your supervisor – DO NOT TAKE CHANCES.
4. Always report unsafe acts or conditions to your supervisor.
5. Always use the Protective equipment and clothing issued to you.
6. Report all injuries or incidents to your supervisor before the end of shift, no matter how minor they may be.
7. Do not fool around while working – Practical jokes can be dangerous.
8. Do not use alcohol or drugs at work and do not report for work intoxicated.
9. Knifes and Firearms are not allowed in any work area.
10. No Physical assault or fighting is allowed in any work area.
11. Do not use Plant or Machinery if you are not authorised or trained to do so.
12. Do not walk underneath any suspended loads and stay out of the way of Plant and Machinery items.
13. Always look around you when you walk on site and make sure you do not fall over equipment, material or
into holes.
14. Do not enter a barricaded area unless you are working in the area.
15. Do not climb onto high structures, including scaffolds unless you are working on the structure, and you are
wearing your safety harness. Your safety harness must always be secured to a solid structure when
working at unsafe heights.
16. Report all defects on tools, equipment, and machinery to your supervisor.
17. Never take shortcuts – always use the access provided.
18. Obey all safety signs and notices.
19. Return all safety equipment back to the person who issued it to you.
20. Please keep your area clean and tidy – a tidy project is a safe project.
21. Never misuse, abuse, or alter safety devices on plant, machinery or equipment and do not ride on Plant,
machinery with no seats for passengers.
22. Never lift heavy objects alone – rather ask someone for help or utilise a mechanical equipment.
23. Keep electrical tools and equipment away from water.
24. Do not throw materials or tools from any height.
25. All edges and openings must be barricaded – do not tamper with them.
26. Only authorised persons will be allowed in the work areas.
27. Do not pollute or damage the environment – use the facilities provided for you.
28. Stay alert, follow the rules, and protect yourself and other workers from accidents.
29. Be aware of any visitors on the site and if you see any person on site who does not belong on site, remove
him from site or report to your supervisor.
30. If you are unsure about safety, then ask your supervisor.

EMPLOYEE SITE SAFETY INDUCTION
OHS Act 85 of 1993 Sections 8 & 14

Every employer is required to take all reasonable measures to ensure that the requirements of the OHS Act, and
regulations are observed. The general duties of employees are to carry out lawful instructions and to obey the
Company's safety rules and procedures prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Act and Regulations. For
this process to begin and to be formalized it is necessary for all employees to be formally inducted into the safety
procedures and the completion thereof, formally acknowledged by both employer and employee.

14. General duties of employees at work


Every employee shall at work-

(a) take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself and of other persons who may
be affected by his acts or omissions;

(b) as regards any duty or requirement imposed on his employer or any other person by this
Act, co-operate with such employer or person to enable that duty or requirement to be
performed or complied with;

(c) carry out any lawful order given to him, and obey the health and safety rules and
procedures laid down by his employer or by anyone authorized thereto by his employer,
in the interest of health or safety;

(d) if any situation which is unsafe or unhealthy comes to his attention, as soon as
practicable report such situation to his employer or to the health and safety representative
for his workplace or section thereof, as the case may be, who shall report it to the
employer; and

(e) if he is involved in any incident which may affect his health or which has caused an injury
to himself, report such incident to his employer or to anyone authorized thereto by the
employer, or to his health and safety representative, as soon as practicable but not later
than the end of the particular shift during which the incident occurred, unless the
circumstances were such that the reporting of the incident was not possible, in which
case he shall report the incident as soon as practicable thereafter.
