Last October 23, 2023, the entire Western Philippines University (WPU) community came
together with a sense of excitement. Students, supportive faculty members, and dedicated staff
gathered at the WPU-PPC Multipurpose Covered Court to witness the grand event that was the
Cultural Olympics' opening night. The energy in the air was evident, as each contestant proudly
represented their respective college or department, and students cheered fervently for their
colleges.

The Cultural Olympics 2023 opening night presented

a wide range of talents, including Vocal Kundiman,
Pop Solo, Vocal Duet, and Live Band in the singing
category, as well as Contemporary and Folkdance in
the dancing category, all performed by students from
the university. These performances were the result of
weeks of dedicated and demanding rehearsals by the
students to achieve perfection. Among them was
Elexe Caluna, a Social Work student, who initially
hesitant about participating in the competition due to
the time commitment. Juggling her responsibilities as
a working student and a mother made it challenging
for her to attend every practice. However, her "Elexe, the representative for College of Arts & Sciences
dedication and perseverance paid off when she (CAS) Pop Solo, achieved first place."

dedication and time investment brought success to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), which

The Cultural Olympics' Opening Night established a vibrant and exhilarating atmosphere that
resonated throughout the entire three-day duration of the WPU Cultural Olympics. Under the
overarching theme of "Sports and Cultural Excellence Through Teamwork, Camaraderie, and a
Winning Mindset" this event not only celebrated the remarkable talents of the participants but
also underlined the core values of teamwork, unwavering determination, and the essence of
sportsmanship.
