NAME: MYKE VINCENT ALFONSO

COURSE: BSCE-2C
SUBJECT: GREAT BOOKS

TEST I.
1. Write a short essay on the importance of reading and understanding the intention
served by authors/writers.

- Readers can better understand a text's subject matter by understanding the author's motivation.
It directs our position as readers. When we hear the cliched phrase "Once upon a time," we are
primed to enjoy an ancient story. We expect to learn why hippos are the most deadly animal in
the world when we read statements to that effect.
Knowing the author's goal aids us in recognizing the methods the writer has employed to
accomplish that goal, including word choice, style, tone, and, of course, content. It directs us to
examine the material through those lenses and to keep in mind that the author may have
prejudices, experiences, or viewpoints that differ from our own. One way to help students
understand author’s purpose in reading is to get them thinking about audience and purpose when
they write.
Some paragraphs make their intentions clear right away. Some sections leave it up to the reader
to determine the intended meaning. The reader will be better able to grasp the passage's core idea
and follow the author's ideas as they develop if they are aware of the author's intended audience.
Similar to this, an author has a reason for each choice they made while structuring the passage's
sentences. Word choice, word placement, and accent in particular all function deliberately to
promote a certain objective that the author has in mind. The astute reader will pick up on the
author's goals and use these clues to follow the author's reasoning and conclusions.
