Drafting the Scene

- Collaboratively write the first draft of your dramatic scene.


Each student chooses a color to write his/her parts.

- Pay attention to the following elements and include them in your scene:
- Well-developed characters
- A setting that impacts the plot
- A clear conflict that arises from a difference
- Dialogue between characters that develops the plot
- Stage directions to bringWhat the actors' actions to life
- A satisfying resolution

The school audicion

CAST OF CHARACTERS:
NASSER, A boy with a good sense of humor

NOURAH, Long curly haired girl


LEENA, Braided short hair with round glasses

ABDULWAHAB, bald headed and old, with a long beard.

Setting: A big school auditorium at 7:00 am in the morning

Lina: (Auditions for school play nervously and shockingly)


Mutters and forgets the lines
(Runs off stage quickly and tears all over her face)
Meets Nourah
Nourah: Are you okay, what happened when you got on stage? Both Nasser and I got
so worried when we saw you running on stage, we were so confused.
(In a trembling, voice)

Lina: I'm okay but, I was overthinking, and not getting the position seconds after
going to the stage so when I came to perform my mind went blank.

Naser and Nourah: (Looks at Lina with a worried expression)

Nourah: Why don’t we help you, we could edit the words in the script to make it
easier for you to pronounce and read it.

Nasser: Yeah, we could make it bigger and change the words to make it easier.

Principal: Lina, I will give you one more chance to audition because i felt bad for you

Lina: Thank you so much, I really needed to repeat it, I was overthinking about failing
but if I repeat it I would feel more comfortable.
(Runs to the stage happily)

Principal: (he glanced at the paper and noticed that her lines font was big and the
words were different.

Lina: (Finishes the audition)

Principal: (Calls Lina, Nasser and Nourah to his office and confronteds that they have
cheated.
Setting: The principal’s office at 8:30 am on a sunny day.

Nasser: Why did you call us here?

Nourah: Did we do something wrong

Principal: It comes to my attention that you three have cheated.

Lina: How did we cheat?

Principal: You guys have changed the font and words to make it appear easier for
you.
Nourah: Are we in trouble? (In a worried and sad, emotional voice)

Nasser: If I am don't tell my dad (lauging in a humorful voice)

Principal: I will give Lina one last chance to do the play and and you better not cheat

Nasser: Thank you so much! (tryingn to not burst out with laughter)

Setting: The school play at 9:45 in the morning

Lina:(Auditions for school play with confidence and at ease.)

Principal: Congratulations lina you have won the role for the play.

Areas for Growth:


- The characters could be more well-developed by providing some description of their
personalities or physical appearances.
- The conflict could be made clearer by explicitly stating the difference that arises and causes
the tension in the scene.
- Adding stage directions to bring the actors' actions to life would enhance the dramatic
effect of the scene.
