Lesson plan for substitute teachers

Warm-up activity Play this game or any other from his website:

Hw to be checked No homework.
Activity 1 Ask students to finish the birthday invitations they
were making in groups last class and show them
to the rest of the class.
Activity 2 - Student’s book p. 25, ex. 1, 2, 3.
Activity 3 Play ‘sit down’:
All students must be standing next to their seats.
Ask them to sit down under conditions like ‘sit
down if you have brown eyes’, ‘sit down if today
it’s Wednesday’, ‘sit down if you have English
class on Tuesdays’, etc. The ones who make
mistakes or the last one to sit after each question
is eliminated, until there’s a winner.
You can repeat it. Every time somebody wins give
them a ‘life’ they can use for the following game.

Show student’s pictures like the ones on this website for about 10
seconds, then close the picture and ask them what was on the
picture. You can repeat many times.

Activity 1 Student’s book:

Activity 3 If there’s extra time play the ‘hot potato’ about vocabulary of unit 5.
The hot potato cardboard is under the teacher’s desk. Say a word
every time you pass it. If you can’t remember any word to say, you
are eliminated.

Warm-up activity Write on the board 10 possible subjects and 10 easy verbs. Ex:
Subjects:

1. A cat
2. A superhero
3. A vampire
4. A robot
5. A pirate
6. A chef
Verbs:
1. eat
2. sleep
3. dance
4. sing
5. fly
6. swim
Then ask students to take turns and orally tell stories in simple past
by using as many of these words as possible.
Hw to be checked Student’s book, p. 114, ex. 1-2. Ask them if they have any question
about the grammar rules.
Activity 1 Student’s book, p. 49
Pronunciation:
- 3A - explain the 3 pronunciation groups on the chart and do
the listening.
- 3B - give as many examples as possible.
- 4 A, B, C, D.
Activity 2 - Vocabulary: ex. 5A, B, C.
- Speaking: ex. 6A-B.
Activity 3 Students tell the class about their favourite films / books / series by
using the grammar and vocabulary of the class.

exercises.
