I believe that the benefits of genetic modification outweigh the risks, due to the long-term
potential of providing sustainability and longevity. As mentioned, there has been research and testing
performed on the genetic engineering for plants to prevent its death. With further testing, we may
potentially prevent a massive loss in our agriculture, and provide society with a safe and edible food
supply. Another benefit of genetic modification would be through gene therapy, which has the ability to
specifically target and kill off harmful cells within our bodies by inserting a specific gene that may do so.
By using this type of therapy, we can potentially cure cancer and other harmful diseases which promotes
our longevity.

As we get older, it is natural for people to lose their memory and have significantly reduced brain
function. Genetic engineering can be utilized to solve these types of problems by using genetically
modified organisms (GMO) which includes a gene to reduce the loss of brain cells regardless of our age.
Diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease may potentially be cured or prevented at an early stage of our life,
by fortifying our brain with this type of GMO. Scientists could also produce another type of GMO that
would promote our brain stimulation during the times we are awake, without it affecting our ability to
sleep. By improving our brain function and strengthening its ability, we can solve one of the most
naturally common problems that comes with aging.
