1. A diode is connected between a 3V variable DC source and a resistance of 1 kΩ. If the silicon
diode has a saturation current of 10 nA at 300 K, the find the quiescent operating load points
of this diode. Assume voltage drop across diode is 0.6 V in conduction.

2. For the diode circuit shown in Fig. 1, if the input voltage is sinusoidal at 20V peak value and,
then
a. draw the output waveform. Also find the average value of the output waveform.
b. If the input voltage is an unsymmetrical square wave with 20V positive peak and
-10V negative peak, the draw the output voltage and find the average value.
3. An npn transistor has following data,
a. Vcc = 18V, VEE = 8V, α = 0.95, VCE = 15 V
b. RE = 1.5 kΩ and RC = 1.2 kΩ
If the transistor is connected in CB connection, then find the terminal currents and VCB.
If the same transistor is now connected in CE connection, then find the terminal currents
and current amplification factor.
4. An CE connected transistor has RB = 330 kΩ, RC = 2.7 kΩ. The base voltage is 10V and the
collector voltage is 10V. If the current gain of the transistor is 100, then calculate the terminal
currents, collector-emitter voltage and base-collector voltage. Based on the obtained values,
in what region is the transistor operating in?
5. A square shaped magnetic core is designed with shape and dimensions as shown in Fig. 2.
The permeability of section A is 250 and that of section B is 500. Find the reluctance of each
section and total reluctance. If the two sections are separated by an air gap of 0.5 mm at each
joint, then what will be the total reluctance.

6. Two magnetically coupled coils have self-inductances of 100 mH and 400 mH respectively.
If the coefficient of coupling is 0.8, the find the value of mutual inductance between the coils.
What would be the maximum possible mutual inductance between the coils?

7. For a transformer setup shown in Fig. 3, R1 = 10Ω, N1 = 100 turns, R2 = 30Ω and N2 = 160
turns. The coil 2 is open circuited while the first coil is connected to 24V (rms) supply. The
flux setup by two coils are 0.01 Wb and 0.008 Wb respectively. Then calculate the self and
mutual inductance of two coils, coefficient of coupling. What will be the expected coil 2
voltage?
