The document provides ventilation recommendations for a 650 KVA standby rated diesel generator set, including that intake and discharge should be at 180 degrees with intake from the rear and discharge in front to prevent recirculation. It recommends a minimum total air flow of 829.2 cubic meters per minute accounting for cooling, combustion, and a 20% fouling factor. The maximum allowable system restriction is 120 Pascals and air velocity should be between 3 to 4 meters per second.
Gas-Engines and Producer-Gas Plants
A Practice Treatise Setting Forth the Principles of Gas-Engines and Producer Design, the Selection and Installation of an Engine, Conditions of Perfect Operation, Producer-Gas Engines and Their Possibilities, the Care of Gas-Engines and Producer-Gas Plants, with a Chapter on Volatile Hydrocarbon and Oil Engines

1. Direction of air flow Ideally intake and discharge
should be at 180 Deg. Fresh air intake to be at the rear side( alternator side) of genset and hot air discharge to be in front of the radiator. Installation contractor to ensure that short circuiting of fresh air and discharge air doesn’t take place.
2. Minimum cooling + combustion
air flow + 20% Fouling Factor for Each Genset Calculation 829.20 m3/min a) Cooling Air Flow – 660 m3/min b) Combustion Air Flow – 31 m3/min c) Total(a + b) = 691 m3/min d) Fouling Factor(20%of’c)- 138.20 m3/min e) Total Air Flow(a+b+d)- 829.20 m3/min 3. Maximum allowable system 120 Pascals restriction 4. Maximum allowable air velocity 3-4 Mtr / Sec
