Assessment Brief: Grade 9 Group Ensemble

Subject: Music

Due Date: WEEK 12 APRIL 2ND -5TH

Assessment Description:

This assessment requires the Grade 9 class to collaborate and perform a group ensemble
using cups, body percussion, and the rhythms learned in class. The focus will be on rhythm
and pulse evenness, fluent and precise performance, clear sound dynamics, and the
incorporation of musical instincts and stylistic awareness.

Objectives:

By participating in this group ensemble, students will:

1. Develop and demonstrate an even rhythm and pulse.


2. Execute a fluent and precise performance as a group.
3. Showcase clear sound dynamics with effective use of body percussion and cups.
4. Incorporate musical instincts and stylistic awareness into the ensemble.

Instructions:

1. Group Formation:
 As a class
2. Repertoire:
 Select a piece that incorporates cups, body percussion, and learned rhythms.
You can copy but also improvise and include you own composition
3. Rehearsals:
 Allocate sufficient time for group rehearsals to ensure fluency and precision.
4. Performance Guidelines:
 Each group will be evaluated based on:
 Rhythm and Pulse (5 marks): Ensuring evenness and a consistent
pulse.
 Performance Fluency and Precision (5 marks): Demonstrating
cohesive and accurate execution.
 Sound Clarity and Dynamics (5 marks): Clear sound production with
effective use of dynamics.
 Musical Instinct and Stylistic Awareness (5 marks): Including
personal musical expression and understanding of stylistic elements.
