Delayed gear shifting at full load acceleration - A4, A6, A8 TDI (09L, 09E) Release date: 25-Oct-2012

Customer statement / workshop findings

The vehicle responds with a delay to full load acceleration in driving mode D (kickdown not operated).

Affected vehicles: A4, A6, A8 with TDI engine and 09L/09E gearbox

Technical background
Shifting arrangement in driving mode D:

Economical and at low engine speeds. The driving style is still economical even when pressing the accelerator
pedal to the floor (without kickdown). The current gear is held and the vehicle accelerates fairly slowly because
of the low engine speed. But if the gearbox control unit recognises that the acceleration is not sufficient
(uphill/heavy loading), it changes down one or more gears. This response time is perceived as delay. With
kickdown the shiftback takes place straight away to achieve a maximum acceleration.

Measure
NA. The customer can use driving mode S or TIP or use the kickdown in driving mode D.

Note: When driving in mode S higher engine speeds are used. This makes the vehicle more responsive.
