SMOKING POLICY
REVISION DATE: 2024-02-01

Policy:
The illegal use, possession, distribution, purchase or sale of any controlled substance, prescription medication or drug by any
person while on company premises or while conducting company business, engaged in a working activity, or operating
machinery/ equipment is strictly prohibited. Any and all violations will result in disciplinary action up to and including
termination.
All company facilities, including offices, cloakrooms, enclosed equipment, and storerooms are designated as “non-smoking”
areas. Visitors and other individuals on the company premises are expected to honour the company’s “no smoking” policy.
The consumption of alcohol is prohibited while at work. The only exception is the use of alcohol during company sponsored
business or social functions, where the use of alcohol remains moderate. Disciplinary action, up to and including termination will
result from drunk or disorderly conduct. Management reserves the right at any time to inspect or search any person, place, or
thing on company property for possession of unauthorised drugs, prescription medication or controlled substances. In such a
case, Management shall attempt to contact HR before conducting a search. If HR is unavailable to conduct a search,
Management must ensure a witness is present at the search. Mandatory screenings (including urinalysis, breath scans and blood
tests) may be conducted in the following situations without prior notification:
 Alcohol or drugs or medication is suspected to be a possible contributory cause to an incident.
 An individual's behaviour is such that drug use or excessive alcohol consumption is suspected.
 Annual medical surveillance screenings.
 A driver of a company vehicle is involved in a motor vehicle accident.
Compliance to the Alcohol, Drug and Smoking Policy is mandatory to all Management, employees, and visitors.
The appropriate disciplinary action will be taken when employees or other individuals are found to be in violation of the Policy.
This includes:
 Any company employee who refuses to allow a search, urinalysis, breath scan, or blood test pursuant to this Policy.
 Any company employee found in possession of any drugs or equipment related to illegal or unauthorized drug use, and
any employee found distributing any such drugs or equipment related to illegal or unauthorized drug use.
 Any company employee who violates this Policy by testing positive on a breath scan, urinalysis, or blood test.
