Concept 1: Plant needs

Revision on living organisms:

All living organisms are similar in the following characteristics:

1- Respiration 2-Sensation 3- Excretion 4- Reproduction
5- Growth 6-Nutrition

Q What do we need to grow plants

1- Sun
2- water
3- Soil
4- space to grow
5- air
Germination process:
The process by which a seed
begins to grow into a plant:
Seedling : very small plant.
1
Stages of germination
process:
1- At first, the seed coat absorbs water and oxygen to nourish the
plant.
2- When the plant grows and becomes a seedling, it does not
take energy from the seed, but from the sun.

Seed needs Plant needs (Seedling)

1-water 1-water
2-nutrients from 2-nutrients from soil
soil 3- space to grow
3- space to grow 4-Air
4-Air 5-Sun

Note - Some plants need a few days or weeks to grow like (beans).
- And there are trees take thousands of years to grow like

: (sequoia trees).

Plant parts:
1- Roots 2- Stem 3- Leaves
4- Fruits 5- Flower
2
Do you think that: the desert
never
There is arains ? the desert when
time in
it rains, but the most of time
It doesn’t rains.

Note
- most plants in the desert need a little water.

:
- The drought time is not bad for plants but it is the part of its
life time.

Desert oasis before rain fall and after rain fall

Before After
➢ There are few plants ➢ There are a lot of green
➢ The soil is brown plants.
➢ There is no water ➢ There is water.

3
Plant needs and animal needs to survive
Animals Plants
➢ Animals move to ➢ Plants make their own food by
search for food, water “photosynthesis” process
and shelter to survive

How can plants make their

own food ? Photosynthesis process.

- It’s a process by which

plants make their own food.

Note:
This process takes place in plant leaves.
The plant Leaves at this process make type of sugar (starch).

Plants take Plants produce

➢ 1- Carbon dioxide ➢ 1- Oxygen
➢ 2-sun light 3-water ➢ 2- sugar (starch)

4
Function of each part of plant
➢ Roots: absorb the water fromprocess
iphotosynthesis the soil.
➢ from roots to the leaves.
➢ Leaves:
➢ Take water from the roots by stem.
➢ Take carbon dioxide from the air.
➢ Take light energy from the sun.
➢ Make sugar for plant nutrition

Basic (essential needs) & non-essential needs of plants

Basic (Essential needs) Non-essential needs

➢ Water ➢ Oxygen
➢ Sun ➢ Sugar
➢ Carbon dioxide ➢ Forest

5
Why didn’t we mention the soil

➢ Some plants need soil to grow

➢ Some plants need water only to grow
➢ Some plants grow on air
