GST MOOC Course Guide Final
COURSE GUIDE
Course Description
This course introduces learners to basic gender sensitivity concepts, enhancing
awareness and understanding of gender and development (GAD) and its related issues.
This GST course is designed to help learners apply GAD concepts in their personal
lives and communities and work towards a more gender-inclusive and responsive
society.
Course Outline
This course contains three (3) modules. The course outline below will guide you on your
pacing as you go through each part of the course/lesson and in doing the course requirements:
Course Integration
Assessment: Submission of course integration requirement in the course site
Course Requirements
To earn a certificate of completion for the course, you must do the following:
1. Submit all required responses to forum or assignments. The guidelines for all these
submissions shall be posted on the course site.
2. Get a passing grade (70%) or better in all quizzes
3. Get a grade of 70% or better for the course Integration requirement. The guidelines for this
submission shall be posted on the course site.
Course Materials:
Your learning package for this course consists of:
1. This course guide
2. Study guides for each module, which include the lecture notes and learning
activity guides and videos
3. Additional reading materials in digital form to be made available on the course
site
The study guides containing the tasks for the week and learning materials such as
videos and readings shall be posted on the course site on the week designated or
topic provided in the site.
House Rules
As you are enrolled in our course as part of the public service program of the
University of the Philippines Open University especially when participating in
any learning activities, you are expected to observe the following guidelines:
1. Honesty and integrity are very important in development work and in the
university. These are also expected in this course. Copying from another’s work,
including your co-learners or from other authors without proper referencing is
not allowed and is illegal. Furthermore, using information and materials that do
not come from legitimate sources is not accepted in the course.
2. In case there would be discussion forums, you are expected to respond to one
or two posts by other co-learners in a courteous and constructive way. Be
polite or civil when arguing a point. Do not be rude and do not make remarks
that may be construed as a personal attack. Refer to ideas/statements, not the
person. Avoid jokes or humorous statements in text that may be misunderstood
by your co-learners, and ask only questions that sincerely interest you.
For any inquiries in relation to the course, the course coordinator is available through
the course site’s messaging button.
The past secretary general of Asian Association of Women's Studies, she is one of the
pool of trainers on gender and development of the National Association for Social Work
Education, Inc. (NASWEI) and pool of expert-partners by the Department of Social
Welfare and Development (DSWD). She graduated Doctor of Professional Studies from
the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, where she received the Community
Service Award in 2020. She is a volunteer provider of psychosocial support during the
pandemic.
She also served as Vice President for Luzon of NASWEI and a member of various
committees and task forces composed of representatives from various SW professional
organizations regarding amendment of SW laws, practice standards for generalist
practitioners, and areas of specialization for advanced Social Work practice in the
Philippines particularly in Advanced Community Organizing and Social Administration.
She completed a 2-week global training program on Women's Economic Empowerment
for Policy Makers by Ewha Womans University, South Korea.
She is regularly tapped by various organizations and groups, both government and
private, locally and abroad, to serve as speaker or facilitator on gender training,
projects, and initiatives.
