ADHD

ATTENTION-DEFICIT / HYPERACTITY DISORDER

ADHD
WHAT IS ADHD???

People with ADHD may have trouble:

paying attention
controlling impulsive behaviors
be overly active.

Although ADHD can't be cured, it can be

successfully managed and some symptoms may
improve
SYMPTOMS IN ADULTS
The characteristic behaviors of ADHD
—including excessive talking,
fidgeting, and easy distraction—may
be regarded as hyperactive in children
but may come off as restlessness,
impulsiveness, and even rudeness in
adults.

both inattentive and hyperactive-
impulsive symptoms are present)
WHY SYMPTOMS
ARE MISSED
Studies suggest that a great many
adults with ADHD had symptoms as
children but were considered
subthreshold by mental health
professionals . Others may have been
regarded as "problematic" children and
left undiagnosed.
MALES VS. FEMALES
Although ADHD is thought to affect males
more than females.
This is because males are more often
diagnosed with predominant hyperactive-
impulsive type ADHD, while females are
more often diagnosed with prominent
inattentive type ADHD. Of the two types,
inattention is far less disruptive than
hyperactivity and easier to miss.
TREATMENT
ADHD is treated the same in females
and males, typically with a combination
of medications and psychotherapy.
SELF-CARE
Self-care is essential to managing ADHD
as it promotes well-being, self-esteem,
and self-regulation.
