Subject- Report on the contribution of the operation manager in supporting the aims and
objectives of Tesla
As a Junior Operation Manager at Tesla, I am pleased to present in front of you the report
highlighting the critical role the operation manager plays in supporting the business aims and
objectives. The operation management has a significant contribution to the overall progress of
our organisation, which includes customer satisfaction, planning, quality guarantee and
supply chain optimization. The managers ensure smooth production with better quality of
products.
Tesla’s emphasis on customer satisfaction makes it important for the company to invest in
areas of innovation and design. The innovation ranging from cars to solar panels requires
better operation management. The operation managers are responsible for introducing new
technologies that later become the face of Tesla (Valentin, 2019). It is with this innovation
that the operation managers help Tesla fulfil its commitment towards eco-friendly and
sustainable products. Similarly, they ensure that the company’s products are inclined to the
changing trends and demands. Secondly, the operation managers keeping in mind the
innovation, do not compromise the quality of the product. The managers are responsible for
conducting periodic reviews and ensuring the implementation of the best-quality products
(Hidalgo et al. 2018). The innovation together with proper scrutiny helps the company aim
for higher quality products. The major proportion of Tesla customers come from rich
families, who do not want to compromise with their security and life. It is the quality
enhancement techniques of operation managers that help the company provide an advantage.
Lastly, the Tesla company is committed to guaranteeing efficient and effective types of
supply chain. The work includes overseeing relationships with the suppliers, maintaining
timely shipments and looking after the inventory. This way a large proportion of work is in
the hands of operation managers, making them important within the company. Thus, the
supply chain helps attain the demand-supply equilibrium within the company, ensures proper
The innovative strategies of the operation managers have yielded great advantages to the
company. The innovative ideas have led to an upsurge in the demand for Model S, which has
combined safety and performance by providing the world’s longest-range electric vehicle
with 0-60 mph acceleration time within 2.28 seconds (Tesla). This model was the best-selling
electric vehicle in the year 2015-16 and increased the prestige of Tesla. It also helped the
company to stand on its commitment to providing maximum security to its clients. Moreover,
the carbon emission of Tesla has reduced significantly by around 50%, although most of the
electricity is generated through coal power plants (Tesla). This highlights the strong skills and
enthusiasm of the operation managers who work to maintain the aims of the company.
vehicles are better adapted to the emerging and changing environment but the training,
communication and lack of leadership do not allow the management to function smoothly. It
is for this that Agile and change management approaches are necessary to bring in a robust
change. These approaches if implemented together will not only bring better products but will
also strengthen the operation management from within. Some of the features are Strong
leadership, training, capacity building and proper planning, which will allow the operation
This approach emphasizes the methods necessary to achieve maximum utility of the existing
resources. Through its nature of flexibility and quick response, the results are often value-
oriented. Tesla deals with cars that require constant change and for that, a flexible approach
must be in place. The agile management approach focuses on cross-functional teams and
makes it possible for several people to come and work together at times of need (Altexsoft,
2019). Further, to maintain customer satisfaction, the company can foster cooperation with
the clients. Engagement with customers through feedback, surveys or sampling will help the
operation management find the best quality of the product. This approach includes initiating,
planning, executing and monitoring, which are essential for ensuring the quality and
efficiency of the product (Altexsoft, 2019). Phased planning and then working accordingly
will not create disruption in work and will bring timely delivery of the product. Thus,
working according to these phases will help Tesla attain higher satisfaction from the
customers. So, instead of a strict division between different departments, the company should
Tesla works through a strict chain of command where the different departments follow the
guidelines provided to them. This restricts the company from maintaining a smooth
functioning as a small disruption in any department cause chaos. The adoption of a change
strengthening the links within the company. The approach helps in achieving flexibility
within work by allowing employees to adapt to new values, culture and vision (Wang, 2012).
It ensures maximum coordination among different units through training, development and
team leadership. The proper training helps the employees to work with maximum utility even
if the chain of command is disrupted. The main aim is to teach proper skills to the employees
so that they do not have to depend upon the higher authorities. Organising workshops and
skill enhancement programmes are best to train the employees. Secondly, the emphasis on
strong leadership will help Tesla to bring a range of operations to work. Strong leaders help
managers to work effectively by creating a diverse and healthy environment. Thus, rewards,
promotions and skill enhancement training are necessary for the managers to bring innovation
