IMPULSE AND MOMENTUM

Problems:

1. A 0.5 kg baseball is thrown with an initial velocity of 30 m/s to the right. It

collides with a stationary 0.2 kg baseball. After the collision, the first baseball
moves at 10 m/s to the right, while the second baseball moves at 20 m/s to the
left. Calculate the final velocities of both baseballs.

2. A 2 kg object is attached to a string of length 1 meter and is rotating in a circle at

a constant speed of 4 m/s. Calculate the angular momentum of the object and
the centripetal force required to keep it in circular motion.

3. Two identical billiard balls, each with a mass of 0.2 kg, collide on a frictionless
table. The first ball is initially at rest, and the second ball is moving toward it with
a speed of 2 m/s. After the collision, the second ball moves in the opposite
direction with a speed of 1 m/s. Calculate the velocity of the first ball after the
collision.

4. A car with a mass of 1200 kg is initially at rest. It accelerates at a rate of 3 m/s² for
10 seconds. Calculate the final velocity of the car.

5. A bicycle wheel has a radius of 0.5 meters and is initially at rest. A constant force
is applied to the edge of the wheel for 5 seconds, causing it to accelerate
uniformly to an angular velocity of 10 radians per second. Calculate the angular
momentum of the wheel after the acceleration.

6. Two identical cars, each with a mass of 1000 kg, are traveling in opposite
directions on a straight road. Car A is moving at 20 m/s to the right, and car B is
moving at 15 m/s to the left. They collide head-on and come to a stop after the
collision. Calculate the final velocity of each car after the impact.
