The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange Limited (‘ZSE’) is a licensed securities exchange in

terms of the Securities and Exchange Act (24:25). Its core mandate is to facilitate long
term capital raising through listing of securities as well as offering secondary market
securities trading and issuer regulation services. Dating back to 1894, the ZSE has
evolved to be one of the longest established capital raising platforms in Africa.

Importance of Stock Exchange

Role of an Economic Barometer:


Stock exchange serves as an economic barometer that is indicative of the state of the
economy. It records all the major and minor changes in the share prices. It is rightly
said to be the pulse of the economy, which reflects the state of the economy.

Valuation of Securities:
Stock market helps in the valuation of securities based on the factors of supply and
demand. The securities offered by companies that are profitable and growth-oriented
tend to be valued higher. Valuation of securities helps creditors, investors and
government in performing their respective functions.

Transactional Safety:
Transactional safety is ensured as the securities that are traded in the stock exchange
are listed, and the listing of securities is done after verifying the company’s position.
All companies listed have to adhere to the rules and regulations as laid out by the
governing body.

Contributor to Economic Growth:


Stock exchange offers a platform for trading of securities of the various companies.
This process of trading involves continuous disinvestment and reinvestment, which
offers opportunities for capital formation and subsequently, growth of the economy.
Making the public aware of equity investment: Stock exchange helps in providing
information about investing in equity markets and by rolling out new issues to
encourage people to invest in securities.

Offers scope for speculation:


By permitting healthy speculation of the traded securities, the stock exchange ensures
demand and supply of securities and liquidity.
Facilitates liquidity: The most important role of the stock exchange is in ensuring a
ready platform for the sale and purchase of securities. This gives investors the
confidence that the existing investments can be converted into cash, or in other words,
stock exchange offers liquidity in terms of investment.

Profit-making companies will have their shares traded actively, and so such
companies are able to raise fresh capital from the equity market. Stock market helps

liquidity to investors by allowing them to quickly and easily convert their holdings
into cash.

The exchange's electronic trading system provides transparency in pricing, which
ensures that the market is efficient and that investors get the best possible price.

The stock exchange provides access to all investors, big or small, making it a
democratic market that ensures equal opportunities for all.

Diversification:
The exchange offers a wide range of securities, making it possible for investors to
diversify their portfolio and minimize risks.

Capital raising:
Companies can raise capital by issuing shares in the stock exchange, which enables
them to expand their business operations.

DISADVANTAGES

Volatility:
Stock prices can be volatile and unpredictable, which can result in significant losses

RAINBOW TOURISM GROUP LIMITED

Rainbow Tourism Group Limited (RTG) is a hospitality and tourism company based
in Zimbabwe. It was established in 1992 as a subsidiary of Zimbabwe Tourism
Investment Corporation (ZTIC) with the aim of promoting and developing tourism in
Zimbabwe. RTG began its operations with the acquisition of the Rainbow Towers
Hotel (formerly Sheraton Harare Hotel) in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. Over
the years, it expanded its portfolio by acquiring and managing several other hotels and
resorts across the country. Some of its notable properties include the Victoria Falls
Rainbow Hotel, Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel, and A'Zambezi River Lodge. In addition
to hotel management, RTG ventured into tour operations, offering travel and tour
services to both domestic and international clients. The company also provides
conferencing and events management services, making it a comprehensive hospitality
and tourism provider.

RTG's growth and success can be attributed to its commitment to high-quality service,
strategic partnerships, and continuous investment in its properties. The company has
been actively involved in promoting Zimbabwe as a tourist destination, participating

Comment
As illustrated above the market share price increased moderately upto 28 May. It then
sharply increased through out the month June.
SEED CO LIMITED

Seed Co Limited is a prominent African seed company that specializes in the research,
production, and distribution of certified crop seeds. The company was founded in
1940 by a group of farmers in Zimbabwe under the name of Seed Maize Association
(SMA). Initially, SMA focused on promoting the use of hybrid maize seeds to
improve agricultural productivity in the region. Over the years, SMA expanded its
operations and adopted the name Seed Co Limited in 1983. The company's objective
was to develop and distribute high-quality hybrid seeds tailored for various crops,
including maize, wheat, soya beans, and vegetables. Seed Co Limited aimed to
address the specific needs and challenges faced by African farmers. Seed Co Limited
established a robust research and development department to conduct breeding
programs and develop new seed varieties that were better adapted to local climates
and resistant to diseases and pests. Through extensive research, the company
introduced several successful hybrid seed varieties that significantly improved crop
yields and quality. With its commitment to quality, Seed Co Limited gained
recognition and trust from farmers across Africa. The company expanded its
operations beyond Zimbabwe and established subsidiaries and distribution networks

Comment
In the diagram above the market prices for Seedco Limited on the stock exchange
drops slightly and rise at the middle of the month June and drop through out the
period.
ECONET WIRELESS ZIMBABWE LIMITED

Econet was created in 1993 in Zimbabwe by Strive Masiyiwa. Initially it was meant
to be called "Enhanced Communications Network" but was later abbreviated to
Econet. In 1998, Econet was granted a telephony licence, at a time when 70% of the
country inhabitants had never heard a ringtone.

In 2005, Econet developed a mobile payment system to help NGOs make cash
transfers to refugees after the Burundi war. The model was extended and integrated in
Econet's technology, along with a credit solution.[4] EcoCash was officially launched
in 2011 and is operated by Econet Enterprises. Within 18 months of its launch, 31% of
Zimbabwe's adult population registered to the service. By November 2017, the service
had over 6.7 million registered users, accounting for 80% of adult Zimbabweans or
52% of all citizens. In February 2013, Econet acquired a controlling interest in the
then TN Bank Zimbabwe, one of the local commercial banks in Zimbabwe, and
renamed it Steward Bank. The bank, whose shares were previously listed on the
Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), were delisted when it became a wholly owned
subsidiary of Econet.

Comment
The selling share of each share of Econet are shown in the diagram rose moderately
and increased sharply in 12 June and then dropped at the end of the month.
CONCLUSION

The share prices of Seed Co limited are quite expense in the Zimbabwe Stock
exchange which shows the value of the company interms of its share capital as
Compared to Rainbow tourism group limited which have their prices low and slightly
flactuate. It can be concluded that Seed Co limited Company's period of high cash
inflaw is in June when seeds will be harvested hence push up their prices as the
company would be maximizes. On the other hand depletion of seeds and vegetation
can be the main cause which is contributing to a fall in prices for Rainbow tourism
group limited Shares at the stock eexchange, and a fall in prices of a company 's share
would implies that the public are not subscribing and hence to attract them share
prices need to fall. Econet wireless Zimbabwe limited on being flactuating at a low
rate which made them going even lower when they are not being subscribed, because
of the shareholders would note that they will actually going having low return on their
capital investment.
