Find the following objects in the
picture:
- Belt
- Blue book
- Red shirt

B. Drill

-If you are the one in the situation of the boy, will it be easy for you
to find the things you need?
Answer: No
-What should you do to find the things you are looking for easier?
Answer: Organize/arrange things

C. Motivation The following is a list of shoe sizes of 25 boys.

ACTIVITY

Group Activity

GROUP 1: Organize the given data using a frequency distribution

table following the steps below.

Below are the results of a survey about the colors of 15 students in

a freshman class. What color is the most favorite of the students
and the least favorite color?

Green Red Yellow White Red

Violet Black Green Yellow Black
Yellow Red White Red Green

1st step: Write the colors in the first column;

2nd step: Make a tally;
3rd step: Count the tallies then write the frequencies;
4th step: Total all the frequencies.

Answer: 1st table

Color Tally Frequency

Black II 2
Green III 3
Red IIII 4

White II 2
Yellow III 3
TOTAL 15

GROUP 2: Organize the given data using a frequency distribution

table following the steps below

The following are the test scores of students. Use 6 as the desired
number of class interval.

14, 15, 30, 19, 10, 18, 26, 30, 10, 15, 15, 28, 10, 30, 34, 40, 20, 40,
20, 30, 10, 22, 36, 36, 22, 18, 14, 26, 17, 37, 21, 19, 11, 16, 29

1st step: make a 3 column table

2nd step: determine the range. (Range = H – L)

Range = 40 - 10 = 30

3rd step: Class Interval = 6

4th step: determine the Class Width

R 30
W= = =5
CI 6
5th step: Write the class intervals starting with the lowest value as

determined in the data.

- Starting with 10 and with w = 5, the class intervals are: 10-15,

16-21, 22-27, 28-33, 34-39, 40-45.

6th step: Tally the corresponding number of scores in each interval.

Then summarize the results or sum up the tallies under the
frequency column.

Scores Tally Frequency

10 – 15 IIIII – IIIII 10
16 – 21 IIIII - IIII 9
22 – 27 IIII 4
28 – 33 IIIII - I 6
34 – 39 IIII 4
40 - 45 II 2
TOTAL 35

ANALYSIS

1. What do you mean by frequency in statistics?

2. What do you mean by frequency distribution table?
3. What do you call the data in the 1st frequency distribution table?
And the data in the 2nd frequency distribution table?
4. What is the difference between grouped and ungrouped data?

ABSTRACTION

1. What are the steps in constructing a frequency distribution table

for ungrouped data and grouped data?

For ungrouped data:

- Make 3 columns. Arrange the data in order in the first column;
- Make a tally
- Count the tallies then write the frequencies;
- Total all the frequencies.
For grouped data:
- Determine the range.
Range is the difference between the highest value H and the
lowest value L in the set of data. R = H - L
- Determine the desired number of the class interval or
categories. The ideal number of class interval in somewhere
between 5 and 15;
- Determine the class width or approximate size of the class
interval by dividing the range by the desired number of class
intervals;
Range R
Class width = in symbol w =
Class Interval CI
- Write the class intervals starting with the lowest value as
determined in the data. Then add the class width to the starting
point to get the nest interval. Do this until the highest value is
contained in the last interval;
- Tally the corresponding number of scores in each interval.
Then summarize the results or sum up the tallies under the
frequency column.

- Give a brief generalization of our todays lesson.

- In what other learning area can we apply organizing data in a
frequency distribution table?
Test yourself

GROUP 1:
Organize the given data using a frequency distribution table.

Given below are marks obtained by 20 students in a 25 point test in

Math. How many students got a mark of 25? How many got the
lowest score?

21 23 19 17 15
15 17 17 19 23
23 21 23 25 21
F. Application
19 19 19 12 25

GROUP 2:
Organize the given data using a frequency distribution table.

The following are the ages of people whose been infected by

corona virus. Use 5 as the desired number of class interval. What
age group has the highest case of COVID-19? Lowest case?

5 57 18 35 56 54 8 19 27 30 48 60
12 37 60 43 52 32 58 33 42 51 22 53

The following data represents the weigh (in kilograms) of 40

students in Samar National School.

Organize the given data below using a frequency distribution table.

Then answer the following questions.

64 58 54 67 52 61 46 51
46 45 51 55 47 49 53 57
G. Assessment
38 43 69 45 48 56 48 50
57 39 59 53 42 50 63 46
40 51 47 41 56 48 57 53

1. Construct a frequency distribution using 7 as a class width.

2. How many students got the highest weights?
3. How many students weighs at most 53 kg?

Organize the given set of data using a frequency distribution table.

Using 5 as the desired number of class interval.
