Exercise 1
What do you say in these situations? Write two sentences for each situation. Use I think I'll /he'll
etc. and I don't think they'll / she'll etc.

1. Your favourite baseball team, the Milton Reds, are playing very well at the moment. The last time
they were beaten was two years ago. They have a match on Saturday.
I think I'll watch the Milton Reds' match on Saturday; they've been on a winning streak, and
it's exciting.I don't think they'll lose, considering their impressive record over the past two
years.
2. You have to go out tonight, but you've hurt your foot so it's difficult to walk. You could go by car.
I don't think I can walk comfortably tonight with my hurt foot; maybe I'll take the car instead.
I think I'll manage to go out if I drive, despite the foot injury.

3. Your brother has got a history exam tomorrow. He likes history and he's done a lot of work.
I don't think your brother will have any trouble with the history exam; he's well-prepared and
passionate about the subject. I think he'll do exceptionally well.

4. Your grandparents don't like the cold winters in Scotland. They want to move to a warm country.
They're thinking about Australia.
I think your grandparents would enjoy the warm weather in Australia; it sounds like a great
idea for them to move there. I don't think they'll miss the cold winters in Scotland.
5. Kim doesn't like her job at the garage. She's been talking about changing jobs for a long time, but
she's still at the garage.
I think Kim might finally make a change in her job soon; she's been expressing
dissatisfaction for a while. I don't think she'll stay at the garage much longer.
6. Jana wants to sell her old computer and buy a new one. The problem is she doesn't have enough
money for a new one.
I don't think Jana will be able to afford a new computer right away, given her financial
situation. I think she'll need to save up before she can make the upgrade.

Put the verbs in brackets into the be going to form.
