SUBJECT: ADDITION OF POWER TROUBLE RELAY FOR FIRE

SYSTEM SUPERVISORY PANEL

—REVISION NOTICE—
This revision replaces the previous issue which should be
discarded.

Type of Change: Product Improvement

Recommended
Compliance: Next Maintenance

Purpose:
To announce the availability of the power trouble relay kit for fire system supervisory panels.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The external wiring between the fire system supervisory panel and the associated fire detectors is
continually monitored for loose connections by control circuits in the panel. Failure of the wiring
is alarmed as a "trouble" by the supervisory panel to external equipment via the "System Trouble"
relay contacts in the panel. The supervisory panel operates from 24 Volts dc supplied from the
turbine system batteries. However, should the 24 Vdc fail, either through operation of the circuit
breaker in the battery supply, or due to blowing of the main fuse in the supervisory panel, this
condition could go undetected. This kit adds a fail-safe relay to continuously monitor the power
available to the supervisory panel and report any failure in the power supply via the system trouble
circuits.

ACTION REQUIRED:
Check all units equipped with a fire system supervisory panel, that were shipped prior to March
1991, for the presence of a power trouble relay.

PROCEDURE:
Locate Terminals 37, 38 and 39 on suppression control panel (Z198-1), and terminals 6, 7 and 8 of
TB1 on the COMMON CONTROL BOARD (see Figure 1).

• If circuits from terminals 37, 38 and 39 of suppression control panel are terminated on
terminals 6, 7 and 8 of TB1 on the COMMON CONTROL BOARD, the power trouble
relay has not been installed. Install relay using parts and instructions provided in Solar Kit
No. 179822K100.
• If these circuits are not terminated at terminals 6, 7 and 8 of TB1, the power trouble relay
has been installed at the factory and no further action is required.
