Future forms

«Going to» and «will»


«GOING TO»
It’s a future form commonly used to talk about
future plans.

O I’m going to visit New York next summer.


O She’s going to learn English.
O We are going to open a new shop.
«GOING TO»
O To make sentences with «going to» we use verb to be as
an auxiliary verb.

I am / I’m
You are / you’re
Sing She is / she’s
He is / he’s
It is / it’s
We are /we’re
Plur You are / you’re
They are / they’re

O AFFIRMATIVE

• Subject + to be + going to + verb

John is going to play.

O NEGATIVE
To make negative sentences using «going to»
we add «not» after verb to be.

• Subject + to be + not+ going to + verb

John isn’t going to play.

To be + subject + going to + verb

Is John going to play?


Yes, he is / no, he isn’t.

O 2 TYPES OF QUESTIONS:
• If the question starts with auxiliary verb (to be),
the answer is normally «yes» or «not».

Is John going to play? Yes, he is / no, he isn’t.

• If the question starts with a «W» word (when,


where, what, who, etc) the answer is specific.

Where is John going to play?


He is going to play in Barcelona. (Yes, he is / no, he isn’t)
«WILL»
O It’s a future form commonly used to talk
about instant decisions. But it can be used
in many other situations.
O In negative can make contraction with «not».
(will not = won’t)

• I haven’t got money. I will go to the bank.


• I’m thirsty. I will drink some water.

Subject + will+ verb

You will eat pizza.

O You make negative sentences by adding
«not» after auxiliary «will».

Subject + will + not + verb

You will not / won’t eat pizza.
