 A transmitter is transmitting data at a rate of 65Kbps. At the receiver the error detector detects 32 error in the
received bits in 15 seconds of data transmission. Calculate the BER (bit error rate) of the communication
system.

32
BER=65∗1000∗15*100%=0.00328%

 The population of Bangladesh is 150 million. Its GDP is taka 21200 billion and annual energy consumption
642.17*10^6 GJ. Calculate the energy intensity in Bangladesh.

We know 1GJ= 10 ^9 Joule

So, 642.17*106 GJ=, 642.17*10^6*10^9= 642.17*10^15 Joule
Also we know, 1Kw-hr=3.6*10^6 Joule
642.17∗10^15
So, 642.17*10^15 Joule= =1.78*10^11 Kw-hr
3.6∗10^6
21200∗10^9
GDP per head= =1.0*10^5
150∗10^6
1.78∗10^11
So Energy intensity= = 1.78*10^ 6 Kw-hr
1∗10^5

 If the signal at the beginning of the cable is 2mW & cable loss is -0.3dB/Km. .what is the power of signal at
the receiver at a distance of 5Km.

Loss in cable= -0.3*5= -1.5dB

𝑃𝑜𝑢𝑡
We know, loss (dB) = 10 log10 𝑃𝑖𝑛
𝑃𝑜𝑢𝑡
 𝑃𝑖𝑛
= 0.707
 Pout= 0.707*2=1.415mW

 A TV signal has a bandwidth of 4.5 MHz this signal is sampled, quantized & binary coded to obtain a PCM
signal.

Determine the sampling rate, if the signal is to be sampled at a rate of 20% above nyquist rate

If the sample are quantized into 1024 levels. Determine the minimum bandwidth require to transmit the signal.

fm=4.5 MHz= 4.5*10^6 Hz

fs= 2*fm=9Mhz= 9*10^6 Hz= 9*10^6 sample/sec
Sampling rate at 20% higher rate= 9+9*0.2= 10.8 MHz = 10.8 * 10^6 sample/sec

L=1024=2^10
n= 10bit/sample
Bit rate= 10.8*10=108Mbps
108
And minimum transmission bandwidth= =54Mbps

 An overhead line at a river crossing is supported form two towers at a height of 50m and 85m above water
level. The horizontal distance between the towers being 450m. If the maximum tension is 3980kgf and the
conductor weight 1.726kgf/m

The minimum clearance

The clearance between the conductor & water level at a point midway between the towers
The clearance between the conductor & water level at a point 200m from the lower level support.

X1+X2=450m… (1)
𝜔∗𝑋22 𝜔∗𝑋12 𝜔
h= S2-S1=85-50=35m= 2𝑇
- 2𝑇 =2𝑇*(X2+X1)*(X2-X1)
2∗3980∗35
 X2 –X1= 450∗1.726 = 359m…(2)

By solving 1 & 2 we get,

X1=45.5m
X2=404.5m
𝑤∗𝑋12
Sag, S= 2𝑇
= 0.45m

Clearance from lower level of conductor = 50 – 0.45= 49.55m

450
At midway 2
= 225m

1.726∗179.52
225-45.5= 179.5m = =6.98m
2∗3980

So sag at 225m= 49.55+6.98= 56.53m

1.726∗154.52
200-45.5= 154.5m = 2∗3980
= 5.17m

So sag at 200m= 49.55+ 5.17= 54.72m
