National Assembly To Dissolve Tonight at 1200 AM Nov 15, 2007 & Other Developments in Pakistan On Emergenmcy & Political Scenario
General Musharraf has asserted to step down from the Pakistan Army Chief’s rank after the ruling
of Supreme Court on the validity of his recent re-election, expected by the end of November. He
also accused Benazir Bhutto of fueling the political turmoil, and rejected Western pressure to
quickly restore the constitution, by lifting Emergency in the country. He also dismissed the threat
by the Commonwealth to suspend the Pakistan unless General ends emergency in the Pakistan by
Nov 22nd. General Musharraf also lashed out Bhutto for stirring up political instability and
tensions. He added that it depends on BB to be on confrontational course or reconciliatory one.
US President George W Bush has also appealed General to end the state of emergency and hold
transparent polls in the country, while continuing as an ally in the war against terrorism.
While the military ruler has vowed to quit army office and swear in as civilian president for the
second term, Benazir Bhutto asserted that she would not accept him even if he sheds his military
uniform because he has failed in fulfilling many promises made with her. She was talking to the
local media, while remaining under house arrest at Lahore. She pledged to form a national unity
government with all the political parties in Pakistan. She said that she is lobbying with all other
parties, whereas exiled former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has plighted to stand side by side
with PPP and help them replace General Pervaiz Musharraf with a democratic government. BB
has also expressed her concern that elections under the supervision of general Pervaiz
Musharraf’s regime can hardly be fair.
Security in the country has been put on red high alert, as secret agencies have warned the
government about the fresh team of suicide bombers has managed to enter the country. Inspector
General of Police (IGP) of Punjab province, Chaudhary Ahmed Naseem said that there are
reports of the presence of the Suicide Bomber in Punjab.
