Snowdonia National Park covers nearly 1,350 square kilometers in northwest Wales and is home to some of Britain's most impressive mountains and landscapes. Its centerpiece is Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales standing at 1,068 meters high. The park contains hiking paths and mountain climbing centers that provide access to explore the surrounding mountains, but excludes the village of Bleno-Festiniog which contains mining operations. Legend holds that the giant Rita Gaur who killed kings and was slain by King Arthur rests at the summit of Snowdon, from which on clear days one can see the countries of Wales, England, Scotland, and Ireland in the views stretching 400 kilometers around.

1,350km in norhwest Wales, home to some of Britain most impressive mountains and wastelands. Its gem is Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales. There is one curious exception to the national park, the village of Bleno-Festiniog, whose inhabitants are mining oil shale. In 1949, it was decided that this industrial area did not merit inclusion in a national park. However, the village is worth a visit, if only for a delightful walk through the Llechwid slate caves. The village of Bettus-y-Coyd, 13 km to the north, is often visited by mountain hikers. From here there are many paths leading to the surrounding mountains. Capel Curig, 8 km west of Bettus y Coid, is another tourism and mountaineering center. Information can be obtained from the climbing center. The pearl of Wales is Snowdon, or Ir-Whitwa in Welsh, which means "tomb", 1068 m high. According to legend, the giant Rita Gaur, who wore a cloak woven from the beards of the kings he had killed, rests here. This monster was killed by the great King Arthur. In clear weather, Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland are visible from the summit for 400 km around.
