Communicative Strategies
Communicative strategies are
deliberate plans and tactics used by
individuals to convey messages
effectively to their target audience
Types of Communicative Strategies
1. Nomination- collaboratively and productively
establish a topic.
2. Restriction- limitation you may have as a
speaker.
3. Turn-taking- process by which people decide who
takes the conversational floor.
4. Topic control- keeping the interaction going by
asking questions and eliciting a response.
5. Topic shifting- involves moving from one
topic to another.
6. Repair- overcoming communication
breakdown to send more comprehensible
messages.
7. Termination- refers to the conversation
participants’ close-initiating expressions
that end a topic in a conversation.

The different
types of Speech
Context
Speech Context is about the
environment where the
communication happens and
how the message is relayed
during the process.
Intrapersonal
The communication that
happens within oneself. This
appears that the source and the
receiver of the message is the
speaker himself.

Interpersonal
The communication happens
between two or more persons.
Depending on the relationship of
these people, the communication
can be formal, casual, informal, or
intimate.

Interpersonal- Dyad Communication
The communication that occurs
between two people. It involves
two active participants who
alternately function as sender and
receiver of the message

Small group can consist of three

Public Communications
It is different from Dyadic or Small
Group Communication in that one
Speaker addresses many Listeners,
collectively known as an Audience.
There is no interchanging of the

Mass Communications
This refers to communication
that takes place through television,
radio, newspapers, magazines,
books, billboards, types of media.

Activity 1
Directions: Analyze the pictures and

discussed. Think of any scenario

occur. It’s up to you how complex or
creative you want your work to be.

A. Identify the type of speech context
in the following situations. The only
possible answers are as follows;
Intrapersonal, Dyad, Small group,
Public communication and Mass
communication.
1. You are recounting your past experiences.
2. The town doctor does a live broadcast on
Facebook about the latest COVID-19 update.
3. Your parents are talking about the monthly
bills.
4. You delivered a graduation speech to your
batch.
5. You felt happy while thinking about how
your teacher appreciated you.
6. A television anchor is delivering a news
report.
7. A pastor gives his sermon to the attendees.
8. You exclaimed “I can do this” before your
turn to sing on the stage.
9. You are asking your seatmate to lend you a
pen.
10. A newscaster speaks her stand on the issues
circulating in the country.
C. Demonstrate the different types
of speech context in different
situations in a skit. The class will
be divided into four groups. Each
group will have an opportunity to
choose what others may pick by
drawing lots.

Research on the following:
1. What are the different Types of Speech
according to Purpose?
2. Define and give some examples of the
different Types of Speech according to
Purpose.
