Tutorial Sheet-2

1. Calculate the molecular field of Ni at 0K in the theory of Weiss assuming a Curie


temperature TC = 628 K, J = 1/2, and a saturation magnetization per atom of 0.6
μB.
2. Find the magnetic contribution to the heat capacity of a paramagnetic salt if the
magnetic moment is 1 μB.
3. Find the magnetic field that has to be applied to a paramagnetic material
containing ions with moment of 1 μB so that x percent of these ions are in the
lowest energy state.
4. Show that the magnetization and the specific heat of a ferromagnet with S=1/2 as
per the Curie-Weiss law are
