5. A block having a mass of 250 kg is placed on top of an inclined plane having a slope of 3 vertical to 4
horizontal. If the coefficient of friction between the block and the inclined plane is 0.15, determine the force P
that maybe applied parallel to the inclined plane to keep the block from sliding down the plane.
6. A dockworker adjusts a spring line, which keeps a ship from drifting along side a wharf. If he excerts a pull of
200 N on the rope, which has 1 ¼ turns aroung the mooring bit, what force T can be support? The
coefficient of friction between the rope and the cast-steel mooring bit is 0.30.
7. Find the value P acting to the right that is required to push the wedge out under the 500 kg block. Angle of
friction is 20 degrees for all contact surfaces.

8. A simple beam having a span of 6m has a weight of 20 KN/m it carries a concentrated load of 20 KN at the
left end and 40 KN at 2m from the right end of the beam. If it is supported at 2m from the left end and at the
right end, compute the reaction at the right end of the beam.
9. A car moving at 6m/sec accelerates at 1.5 m/sec2 for 15 sec, and then decelerates at a rate of 1.2 m/sec2 for
12 sec. Determine the total distance traveled.
10. A ball is dropped from a balloon at a height of 195m. If the balloon is rising 29.3 m/sec, find the highest point
reached by the ball and the time of flight.
11. A Projectile is fired from the top of a cliff 92m high with a velocity of 430 m/sec directed 45 degrees to the
horizontal. Find the range on the horizontal plane through the base of the cliff.
12. A projectile is launched at 45 degrees to the horizontal on a level ground at a speed of 60 m/sec. Neglecting
air resistance, what is the range of the projectile.
13. A 2 N weight is swing in a vertical circle of 1m radius and the end of the cable will break if the tension
exceeds 500N. Determine the angular velocity of the weight when the cable breaks.
14. A 100 kg block of ice is released at the top of a 30 degrees inclined 10m above the ground. If the slight
melting of the ice renders the surface frictionless. Calculate the velocity at the foot of the inclined.
15. A constant force P = 750N acts on the body shown during only the first 6m of its motion starting from rest. If
the coefficient of friction is 0.20, find the velocity of the body after it has moved a total distance of 9m.
