The Physics of Boomerangs Essay
The Physics of Boomerangs The successful flight of a boomerang looks as though it
never should happen. Its more or less circular flight path comes from the interaction of
two physical phenomena: the aerodynamic lift of the arms of the boomerang and the
spinning boomerang s maintenance of angular momentum. Briefly put, the airfoil at the
boomerang s forward rotating edge provides more lift than its rearward rotating edge.
This elevates one side of the boomerang. The spinning object maintains angular
momentumby turning at a right angle to its axis of rotation. When the spin and the
velocity of boomerang are just right, it flies away and returns in an aesthetically
satisfying circle.

The boomerang s distinctive flight starts with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But when a fluid encounters an obstruction in an open situation a current in a river
hitting a stick or an airfoil in the air the same general rule applies. As the fluid
accelerates around an object, its pressure decreases. If an airfoil is moving through the
air, then the air accelerates as it goes over it. If the air foil were symmetrical, the air
pressure would drop on both sides and the foil would have no net force acting on it.
But if one side of a foil were curved and the other flat, then the pressure on the curved
side would be less and the foil would be drawn in the direction of the lower air pressure
(or the higher pressure on the flat side would push the foil in the direction of the
curved side). For example, when rules allow, race cars have an upside down foil along
their bottoms to increase down force and with it, their cornering ability. Much more
commonly, airplane wings and helicopter rotors use the curved foil to create low
pressure areas on their top sides to allow the higher pressure under the wing/rotor to push
the wing/rotor upward.

The introductory chapter of John Allen s Aerodynamics: The Science of Air in Motion
describes a complex interaction between the object the the air in motion around it. He

Concepts Of Government In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To...
The main plot of the movie, Mr. Smith goes to Washington is a conflict between Jeff
Smith, Senator Paine, and Jim Taylor. A senator of a state passed away causing a new
senator needing to be appointed. Jim Taylor a local publicist who had pull around the
Senate, pressured the governor to select Jefferson Smith. He was appointed as the new
Senator of the State, because everyone thought that he was incompetent, naive, and
would not get in their way. However when Smith passed a clever bill that got in the
way of Jim Taylor s scandal, Jim and Senator Paine tried to do whatever they could to
get Jeffrey expelled from the Senate. But with the help of Clarissa Saunders, Jeffrey was
able to stop them.

One of the concepts that the movie touched on was the filibuster process. A filibuster
is a technique of prolonged speech in order to prevent a bill from being passed. In the
movie Clarissa advised Jeff to commence a filibuster in order to prevent a bill from
getting passed, by doing so he prevented his own expulsion and also exposed Jim
Taylor and Senator Paine for who they really were. Jeff saved his bill also by using the
filibuster and cleared his name of all the lies that were spread by Jim Taylor and his
colleagues. In the movie they also went over the process of how to get a bill passed.
Senator Jeffrey s bill was to organize a camp for kids that need help. First Senator
Jefferson has to propose the bill in front of Senate after he is done writing it, and after
that it is sent into a committee to deem the importance of the bill. After that it is sent
back and forth from the House and the Senate and is amended and voted yes or no on. If

Discussing The Conflict Between The Bush Administration...
Presidential Signing Statements When the President is presented with a bill to sign into
law he has two choices under the Constitution. He can veto the law under Article I
Section VII or faithfully execute the law under Article II Section III. Many political
pundits believe that signing statements are illegal because they go against the
presidential oath office. While others believe signing statements give the president more
power, which goes against the system of checks and balances. Some members of
Congress say that signing statements defeats the purpose of the law. In this paper I will
discuss what signing statements are and what role they play in the different presidential
administrations. I will then discuss the conflict between the Bush administration and
Congress over signing statements. A presidential signing statements is a written comment
issued by a President at the time of signing legislation (Woolley). When signing a bill to
law, the President can write a comment about how he plans to authorize the bill. Many
presidential sign statements are expressing the President s opinion about the legislation.
There are many types of signing statements that are controversial, because they can
dictate which portions of a bill the president would not execute because it might infringe
on the executive powers granted in the Constitution (Moyers). Before President Reagan,
the Presidency had only ever issued 75 signing statements (Moyers). Presidential signing

worked out in their favor because the two brothers were able to create the delicious
recipe for some of our favorite cereal today Kellogg s Corn Flakes. In 1914, Kellogg s
was introduced into Canada which opened doors allowing the company to later open
factories in Australia, England, Mexico, Japan, and India just to name a few. Kellogg s

Civilizations of Ancient China and East Asia
The main major theme of module three is the development in China and East Asia. The
chapters cover the social, philosophical, cultural, governmental and religious aspects. The
chapters offer an insight of how China and Eastern Asian cultures had developed. It also
elaborates on the dynasties that had ruled during this era.
China was isolated from West and South Asia because of the demographics of the land.
The writing system was not influenced by other cultures. They had created a
logographic system of writing. Every word had its own symbol. This writing system
was not only a major part of Chinese literature but also played a large part in the political
process. The Shang Dynasty was the first to have writing, cities, chariots, and ... Show

The Zhou created smaller domains which would eventually over through the central
government of Zhou. The Zhou had a hierarchy of rank which started with the king and
moved downward to farmers and traders. They also had practiced in the collection
concubines. During the Warring States Period the social structure of the Zhou was being
under minded by the advancement in military technology. While trying to encourage
populations by increasing land cultivation, iron technology advancement also promoted
economic expansion.
During this time Confucius emerged and brought on the ethical thought that family
was the basic unit of society (64). His recorded sayings were in the Analects which
were written by his disciples. His political ideas that the government should work for
the people, and the people should work with their government were also followed by
Menicus, and Xunzi. Daoism which focused on the larger importance of natural order
instead of making human actions the center of importance was identified as Dao, or the
Way. Legalist insisted on the need for rigorous laws instead of following the ideals of
Confucius. The laws of the Legalists were designed as much to constrain officials as to
regulate the common people. (71) Yin and Yang were also and important strain of
Chinese thought.
China was finally unified when the state of Qin adopted the Legalist policies, and
defeated all of their rivals. The
The Hierarchy Of Structure And Agency
There is a constant debate about the primacy of structure or agency in forming human
behavior in the social science. Carlsnaes (as cited in Hay, 1995) claimed that the problem
of structure and agency is ... the central problem of social and political theory . Radically,
the agency structure problem is an ontological problem which is related to the nature of
structures, agents and their correlations (Wight, 2003). There are four influential
positions in the structure agency debate: structuralism, intentionalism, structuration
theory and critical realism (Hay, 1995). In his book, structuralism emphasizes the
dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure centered
approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship
between structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in
explaining behavior. It is an agency centered approach that regards structures as the
product of intentional acts. Structuration theory presents a developed attempt to
transcend the dualism in which structure and agency are connected externally. It argues
for the duality of structure . Critical realism is based on a dialectical cognizance of
structure and agency, striving to overcome the dualism of the two. It links to strategic
relational approach . This essay will argue that structure and agency is a dialectical unity
of relationship, and they entail and affect each other. In exceptional circumstances, they
can be
