The internet, being a dynamic and ever-evolving entity, presents a multitude of facets to explore. The

Representations of Individualism

The representation of the individual in Karen Tei Yamashita s Through the Arc of the
Rainforest shows interactions between the characters with varying degrees of
individuality, as well as generic crowds representing the population at large. The
individuals represented are characters with both weak and strong personalities, as well as
exploitative and exploited crowd interactions. Yamashita portrays the individual with
basic cosmetic differences, evidenced by Kazumasa s orbiting cranial satellite and
Tweep s third appendage. However, Yamashita also uses the ideological differences,
specifically Chico Paco s religious devotion and Mane Pena s knowledge in the field of
featherology. These distinctions serve to cast these characters from the homogenous
crowd, elevating them from the nameless characters that occupy the background of the
novel. The individualism these characters demonstrate is identified by their personalities,
their interactions with other individuals, and their interaction with the crowd around
them. This paper will use these actions to explain Yamashita s portrayal of flawed
individuals, and how they interact with the crowd. Eric Mack s essay In Defense of
Individualism provides a basic outlook of individualistic personalities and interactions
that are prevalent throughout society. Mack gives definitions of different theories in
individualism, breaking the encompassing thought
Los Angeles Music in Chincano Communities
In the 1970 s when Chicanos began to revolt and fight for what they believed in, there
was a lot of violence happening. The riot in which there was one resulting death, fifty
injuries, and righty arrests demonstrates all the chaos and rioting that the Chicano
community was experiencing. For many years Chicanos were considered the silent or
forgotten majority. This situation was to change dramatically in the mid and late 1960s
as an independent movement developed in response to the specific oppression of the
Chicanopeople, which had a dynamic and revolutionary logic of its own . Throughout
this time there was also much progress occurring for the Chicanos. They had rose from
652,879 in 1960 to 1,228,594 in 1970, an increase of almost 90 percent , Chicanos
were no longer becoming the minority but they were now becoming the majority.
There was progress for the Chicano in school and in the work field. They were no
longer ignored as they were in the past years. There were more Spanish speaking
teachers and more educational programs for the Chicanos. Although the Chicano
community had advanced and was starting to receive more fair treatment, there was still
a lot that needed to be done. There were no associations for Chicanos, and they were not
really represented in congress either. In the 1960 s the advancement was noticeable and it
was good for the Chicano community, but in the 1970 s the progress that had occurred
had began to erode. Although progress in education had been

and right and transverse which divides the body into top and bottom portions. The axis
that can be used is the coronal axis which runs from side to side at a right angle to the
sagittal plane of motion. Now we ll begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Amish Funeral Home Essay
The aspects of an Amish funeral service are steeped in customs that vary largely from
that of an English funeral. Though the ideals and customs of an English funeral service
change with the new trends of the region. While the Amish funeral service has changed
very little from the Amish deviation from the Quakers. In most branches of the Amish
church, the rituals and traditions surrounding death are held in the highest regard. These
sacred teachings are known to very few members of the church; generally, by the
bishops, or by the Amish funeraldirector. The funeral, as seen from the English
perspective, is a celebration of life or the mourning of a life; while, the funeral seen
from an Amish perspective, is a celebration of the gift of God.
In general, when a member of the Amish community dies, their body will be embalmed.
Unlike most of the more conservative religions, the Amish believe in using both arterial
embalming (The process of injecting chemicals into the arterial system of the body) and
visceral embalming (The process of injecting chemicals into the viscera or organs). In
most modern circumstances, the Amish family will use an English funeral home (There

funeral home then and there. The arrangements are made regardless of the hour of death.
Generally, English funeral arrangements take hours for the funeral director to explain the
choices and customization of an English funeral. When in an arrangement for an Amish
funeral, the family and clergy will be informing the funeral director about the traditions
and customs that MUST be followed. Most Amish families will handle informing the
cemetery, ordering and paying for the coffin, and ordering the rough box (The Amish
equivalent of a vault or outer burial liner). (Beerman,
