Summary Of Prize Giving By Gwen Harwood
Esteemed/Satirical poem Prize Giving, published by Australian author Gwen Harwood
(1959), proposes several possible readings. Applying an authorial and feminist lens,
enables me to recognise Prize Giving as a poem that expresses Harwood s feelings of
frustration with pompous male figures from her experiences of being dismissed when
she was unable to publish her works, due to being female. It can be read dominantly as a
poem which undermines the patriarchal, supreme male figure, professor Eisenbart and
the superiority of logic and science, with a passionate young girl who satirises and
belittles him with her talent for art, consequently changing his views and perspectives.

Eisenbart s vanity reaches culmination when when he recomposed his features to their
best advantage: deep in thought, with one hand placed like Rodin s Thinker,
mimicking the pose of Rodin s The Thinker , in itself a work of art. His posing of
Rodin s The Thinker is pierced by the mimicry of the titian haired girl, his foil, who sat
grinning at him, her hand bent under her chin in mockery of his own. When read
dominantly, a reader could infer that this imagery signifies the celebration of art and
passion over science and logic, since Eisenbart s character represents the academic,
whilst the titian haired girl represents creativity and art, characters that can be
considered binary oppositions. The girl was able to take control and trap Eisenbart
through the music, capturing him in a moment of creativity and passion. The
dominance of the creative power of art and passion over the logical voice of reason is
seen when Eisenbart is confronted by the talent of the passionate titian haired girl as
she plays the piano, a precocious mozart, and despite his admiration, he undergoes a
reversal as he peered into a trophy which suspended his image upside down which
reflected the hollowness of his vaunted pride. The reason of his reversal is told through
the quote to take his stare with her to the piano, there to change her casual schoolgirl s
for a master s air. This metaphor may imply that the young

INTRODUCTION
Brazil has become the second largest producer of soybean in the world after the United
States. Projections to the year 2020 indicate the country s soybean production will
increase to 105 million tons, mainly due to Brazil s large expanse of arable land with
potential to be used for agriculture. This expansion of soybean production will occur
mainly in the North and Northeast parts of the country (Viana et al., 2013). For example,
in the past decade the Para State, Northern Brazil, has seen phenomenal expansion of
soybean crop in area and production. Area under soybean cultivation has steadily
increased over the years from 2 thousands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phase of major water demand are flowering and early pod formation and remains
high until physiological maturity (Hu and Wiatrak, 2011). The occurrence of heavy
rainfall in the final period of crop season also represent an important factor limiting crop
yield, mainly in soybean production regions of the Amazon, where the weather patterns,
including high temperature and humidity, and the potential for daily rainfall, can create a
near perfect environment for the outbreak of fungal diseases and accelerating
degradation process of grain causing great losses in the production quality (Fraisse et al.,
2007).
The El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the one various oceanic atmospheric
phenomena that influence the weather pattern of many place around of the world,
affecting significantly crops production (Rojas et al., 2014).This phenomenon is
characterized basically by sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the eastern
equatorial Pacific Ocean. When SST is higher (lower) than normal the phenomenon is
referred to as El Niño (La Niña) or warm (cold) events (Fraisse et al., 2007). According
recent studies, the Amazon region has showed a strong ENSO signal, particularly in the
northeastern in austral summer and autumn (Li et al., 2011, Yoon and Zeng, 2010,
Garreaud et al., 2008), coinciding with the growing season of the most important crops
as a soybean (Sousa et al., 2011). During these period, El Niño (La Niña) years tend to be

Reflection Of Divergent
Each faction serves a purpose in society. Amity are farmers and counselors. Erudite are
teachers and work in offices. Candor handles the law and Dauntless are in charge of the
city s security. Each faction has its personality. Abnegation is selfless, Candor is honest,
Erudite is intelligent, Amity is peaceful and Dauntless is brave. I do not think these
factions represent every basic personality type. I think Divergent should create its own
faction.
The reasoning behind the creation of the factions was to create peace and order within
the society. I do think the factions are working toward a better society and a better
world. The fact that everyone is loyal and true to their faction seems to work for Tris s
society. What does not work for Tris s society is that the Divergents have to hide and are
in danger.
I think the faction I would have been born into is Amity because they are peaceful and
hardworking. My family works hard to live a peaceful life. We are also kind people.
The faction I would select at the choosing ceremony would be Dauntless because, like
Tris, when I make this decision, I will think about myself and I think I would want to
learn how to be brave and courageous. Also, I would feel unprepared and scared because
this decision will determine how I will live the rest of my life.
Choices I ve made that have changed me are to have goals in life because it changes
perspective on a lot of things and it challenges and motivates me to achieve those goals.

Andrea Yates Mental Illness
Andrea Yates was a mother of five who lived in a Houston suburb. Andrea suffered
from serve postpartum depression and psychosis which unfortunately lead her to drown
all five of children in a bath tub one afternoon. Andrea was charged with capital murder
and was given life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. However, she
filed an appeal, and her original sentence was overturned, and she was found in innocent
in 2006 on reason of insanity. I m going to explain her upbringing and her mental health
influenced her to murdering her children.
Andrea came from a religious background her, she and her husband openly stated they
wanted to have as many children as god would allow. She also, seemed to be an
overachiever in school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her neuropsychological function were not able to process information as a typical person
would. Other issue that Andrea faced at time was frustration due to not get proper help
and support for her mental health issues. Given, the time period view on mental health,
and the religious and societal views on what a mother should be we could see why
Andrea engaged in her criminal behavior. She struggled thought it a lot, and regrettably
ended up killing her children while in state where she lacked empathy. Although, now
Andrea lives a left one could assume full of regret, she continues to speak out for mothers
with postpartum depression. She and her husband have started a nonprofit to bring
awareness to the issues, and Andrea sells homemade items from her mental health facility
to help support the non profit. Although, this was tragic Andrea is trying to raise
awareness and prevent this type of thing from occurring again. Although, Andrea s crime
was horrible, and tragic one must look at the factors that impact her choice to participate
in this activity. It s unfortunate, that our mental health system wasn t as supportive as it
should have been. This crime thought made society take meatal health more seriously
and the awareness of how to combat these
Character Appreciation Of Beauty In Myself
My life has been filled with many trials and obstacles that I overcame, many of these
were not easy, but they have contorted and shaped me into the person that I have
developed into. If my life did not turn out the way it had, I feel like I would not have
made it to Mines, I would not have completed as many accomplishments as I have. These
obstacles showed me that I have the capability of completing anything that I set my mind
to, thus nothing is impossible.
My top character strength of appreciation of beauty and excellence has contributed
greatly to my immense optimism. It has provided me with the capability to identify
the beauty in everything, even when most people perceive only the ugly. I needed this
skill greatly in the younger years of my life when my parents decided to separate. As a
young child, I had the strongest desire for my two families to come together as one, I
was tired of other kids talking about their family while I talked about my families. I
use to be a very angry child, only wanting one simple goal in my young mind, but as I
began to mature I realized that this was not simple at all rather the opposite in fact, it
was near impossible. My families are two unique entities on their own and they each
need to be loved in their own and different ways. I saw the beauty within my two
separate families, I had double the love, double the support, and double the attention. My
character strength of appreciation of beauty and excellence helped me to witness the
good in the bad situation and to make the best of the situation. My positivity can be
spread around the Mines campus, providing a unique energy and vibe to the classrooms
in which I belong to. When students are feeling down, they can come and talk to me
which I will then assist them with pay attention to the positive within their negative
situation.
Another one of my top character strengths that has contributed to my life success within
school is my creativity. While in high school, I came to the conclusion that I have a
difficult time with complex concepts, but I also learned that for most of these concepts
they can be broken down into simpler concepts through cartoons and/or easy to remember
acronyms. This then made it easier for me to
Land Of Waste In America
The Land of the Waste
Making America great again has never been more of a challenge. We need to make
America green again. ...over the last five decades as states have implemented
requirements and consumers have become more aware, the U.S. is way behind leading
European countries (Lacey). America is one of the largest producers of waste in the world.
With this we should be figuring out new ways in which to recycle and reuse different
compounds and materials to ensure a better future.
America s waste production is one of the highest in the world, with less than 27% of all
its waste produced is actually recycled. The United States has lenient waste and littering
laws, making landfills much fuller than what they would be if the laws were stricter.
America also places little to no reward on recycling; those who recycle more often than
not pay a fee making it more of a hassle. The U.S. is one of the biggest contributors to
waste production in the world, in turn the least green of all countries. Citizens and
government alike in China are taking steps to encourage recycling; this has also
become a profit machine (Norleen). The Chinese have a system where one is able to
turn in recyclables and therefore are paid for waste collected. China isn t the only
country others have also started this system and some even have integrated tax
reductions. In Japan, one is able to pay for a beverage or a parking meter with recyclable
items such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
