Tarapoto (300–400 meters above sea level) is a city located in the Department of San Martín, northern Peru, and is
considered a gateway from the Andes to the lower Amazon. The study locality in Tarapoto is characterized by
secondary tropical forest with significant human disturbance. The observations were made between October and
December 2021 (end of the dry season), in a private property along the river Shilcayo. Mist netting was done
almost daily in open forest or shrubbery close to roads, as part of a project aiming to study the behaviours of
insectivorous birds. The nets were placed at ~0–3 meters height, opened from early morning until ~5 pm, and
checked at hourly intervals. All birds were measured and feather samples were taken and stored at the Natural
History Museum in Lima. The birds were released immediately or kept in captivity for a maximum of ~30 hours
for behavioural experiments and released at the same locality in favourable weather conditions.
