Retelling
1. Understand the main idea of the text.
There is no need for you to tell
everything from what you have read.
Choose only the important details.
2. Your retelling should answer the 5
W questions: who, what, when where,
and why.
3. Retell the text in the correct sequence or
order using your own words.

Skimming
1. Read the topic sentence carefully, and then skim down through the rest
of the paragraphs. By doing this, you can get all the information without
having to spend too much time on reading.
2. Read the first and the last sentence of each paragraph.
3. Look for important pieces of information such as names, dates, or
events. Exercise keen judgment when you search for information.
4. Read out random sentences or parts throughout the text to get the
author’s idea.

Close Reading
1. Assess the key ideas and details of the text
that you have gathered. Make sure you
understand what the author is trying to tell you.
If you cannot understand it in the first reading,
try reading it again until you get the idea.
2. Integrate knowledge and ideas from what you
already know. Highlight portions of the text that
