FORMS OF SIMPLE PAST TENSE
REGULAR VERBS
1. It is formed by adding ed to the base form of the
verb, or d if the verb ends in e.

Example: (vow-vowed) (love-loved),


Caren vowed to take care of her mother when she
grows old.
The mother loved her children above all things.

2. It is formed by doubling the
consonant then adding ed if the
verb ends in a vowel and a
consonant.

Example: (shop-shopped)

IRREGULAR VERBS
1. It does not follow the adding of -d
or -ed.
Example: (bring-brought)

2. It changes its spelling.


Example: (drive-drove)
The father drove his children to
school.
