SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7

0. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
 Identify the subject and predicate in the simple sentence;
 Construct a simple sentence:
 Show teamwork and cooperation through participating in a group activity.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
TOPIC: SIMPLE SENTENCE
REFERENCE: GRAMMARLY.COM
MATERIALS: VISUAL AIDS, WRITTEN ACTIVITIES

III. PROCEDURE:

A. Preliminary Activities:

a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Motivation

The students will identify what is the subjects and predicates using examples and visuals. The
students participate in a discussion, asking questions and clarifying their understanding.

B. Presentation of the Lesson:

A simple sentence consists of just one independent clause—a group of words that contains at
least one subject and at least one verb and can stand alone as a complete sentence—with no
dependent clauses.

Here are some examples of simple sentences, with the simple subjects and verbs in bold:

 My partner loves to hike.


 The news report included various accounts from bystanders.
 Veterinary technicians work alongside veterinarians.

C. Generalization:

The students will identify the subject and the predicate in the following
sentences.

1. I will shop at the store this weekend. (subject: I / predicate: will)

2.Maya and Gary fell and bumped heads. (subject: Maya and Gary/ predicate:
fell and bumped)

3. Shelby ate lunch and read a book outside. ( subject: Shelby/ predicate: ate)

4. The library is closed today. (subject: library/ predicate: closed)

5. The students sat and worked on their math exams. (subject: students/
predicate: sat and worked)
D. Application:

Students will work together to sort the sentence cards into subject and
predicate categories, promoting teamwork and cooperation. The demo teacher
will divide the class into small groups, the demo teacher will provide each
group with a set of sentence cards, the students will sort the cards into subject
and predicate categories, each group create a chart on the chart paper, with
two columns labeled “Subject” and “Predicate”, and each group share their
chart and discuss their choices.

After doing it, there will be a talking monkeys assigned to each group to
perform their work and it will be graded by the following criteria:

Correctly sorted sentences: 50 pts.


Clear and organized chart: 50pts.

IV. EVALUATION:

Underline and identify the subject and predicate in the following sentences.
1. She browsed online forums about tutoring.
2. My classmate grew up in Lagos, Nigeria.
3. Melly recognized Vigo in the crowd right away.
4. The voice of the orator rose and fell.
5. They posted flyers with a picture of the lost dog all over the neighborhood.

V. ASSIGNMENT

1) What is the subject in the sentence “The dog barks loudly”?


2) What is the predicate in the sentence “She sings beautifully”?
3) Sort the following sentence into subject and predicate: “The students are studying for the test.”
