GOOD DAY

STUDENTS!
PRAYER
Father God,
As we start this new day for new learning, we
ask for Your guidance.
Lead us all the way. May You let us see
through Your eyes, listen through Your ears,
and speak with Your Mouth.

Be with us as we explore the world.

Give us the heart to love and be kind to one
another. Please watch over all our teachers,
children, and families.
In Jesus’ name. Amen

Learning objectives
Illustrate how energy from
volcanoes may be tapped for
human use.
EXAMPLE OF BACTERIA
CAPSULE
● Capsule is a 0.2µm thick
viscous layer as an outer layer
to the cell wall.

● Capsule is 98% water and 2%

polysaccharide or glycoprotein/
polypeptide or both.
FLAGELLA ● It is a 15-20 nm hair-like
helical structure that
emerges from the cell wall.
● Flagella is not straight but is
helical. It is composed of
flagellin protein (globular
protein) and is known as an
H antigen.
● Flagella has three parts.
Basal body, Hook, and
filament
PILI

● Pili are hollow filamentous

and non-helical structures.
● They are numerous and
shorter than flagella.
● Pili is the characteristic
feature of gram–bacteria.
● Pili is composed of pilin
protein.

SHEATH

● Some bacteria forming chains or

trichomes are enclosed by a
hollow tube-like structure known
as Sheath.
● Aquatic bacteria mostly form a
sheath
● Some sheathed bacteria are;
Sphaerotilus, leptothrix, clonothrix,
etc.

● STRUCTURE INSIDE
THE BACTERIA

generated in to ways:

1. Geothermal power

2. Geothermal heat

CELL MEMBRANE

● The cell membrane is the inner

layer that lies inside the cell wall
and encloses the cytoplasm.
● It is also known as a cytoplasmic
membrane or plasma membrane.
● It is about 80nm thick.
● The cell membrane of bacteria is
composed of phospholipids and
proteins.
NUCLEUS

● The nucleus is the most

important part of the cell.
● It controls and directs all the
cellular activities and stores
hereditary information of cell
● A bacterial nucleus is known as a
nucleoid; it lacks a nuclear
membrane, nucleoplasm, and
nucleolus.
RIBOSOME

● The bacterial ribosome is of

the 70s type.
● Ribosomes are rounded
granules found freely floating
in the cytoplasm
● Ribosomes are known as
universal cell organelle
because it is found in both
bacterial cell and eukaryotic
cell.
MESOSOME

● Mesosome is a spherical
or round sac-like
structure found
commonly in
gram-positive bacteria.
● Function: It is the site for
respiration in bacterial
cell
CYTOPLASM

● It is a colorless, viscous fluid

present inside the cell
membrane.
● All the cell organelles and
inclusions are found floating
in cytoplasmic fluid.
● It contains proteins, lipids,
minerals, nucleic acids,
glycogen, water, etc.
SPORES(ENDOSPORES)
● A spore is a metabolically
dormant structure produced
during unfavorable conditions by
the process called sporulation.
● Sporulation occurs during the
late log phase or early stationary
phase
● Under favorable conditions,
spores germinate to give
vegetative cells.
● The bacterial cell wall consists of peptidoglycan, an essential
protective barrier for bacterial cells that encapsulates the
cytoplasmic membrane of both Gram-positive and
Gram-negative bacterial cells. Peptidoglycan is a rigid, highly
conserved, complex structure of polymeric carbohydrates and
amino acids.
● The bacterial cytoplasmic membrane is composed of roughly
equal proportions of lipids and proteins. THE MEMBRANE OF
