ACADEMIC CONCEPT PAPER

Impact of New Face to Face Learning Modality to the Academic Performance of

Grade 12 Learners of St. Joseph’s Academy of Bongabong Inc. S.Y. 2022-2023

1. Introduction
Over the past two school years, many students have
experienced many difficulties and struggles in their distance learning in academic
performance. The purpose of the study was to examine the relations and
comparisons between face to face learning from distance learning in academic
performance of the students. In this process, to further conduct this research, it
will determine not only the change but also the impact that will affect their overall
performance throughout this school year. This topic was chosen by the
researchers to pay mind on the aspects of the well-being of the grade 12 student
at Saint Joseph Academy Bongabong Incorporated.
2. Need for this Study
For Caballero et al. (2007), academic performance involves
meeting goals, achievements and objectives set in the program or course that
a student attends. These are expressed through grades which are the result
of an assessment that involves passing or not certain tests, subjects or
courses. The academic performance involves factors such as the intellectual
level, personality, motivation, skills, interests, study habits, self-esteem or the
teacher-student relationship. When a gap between the academic performance
and the student’s expected performance occurs, it refers to a diverging
performance. An unsatisfactory academic performance is the one that is
below the expected performance. Sometimes it can be related to teaching
methods. (Marti, 2003, p. 376).

3. Background
This study aims to determine and analyze the academic
performance by using numerical data such as measuring the grades of the
students which can be assessed through their performance and their scores in
classroom tests, assignments, outputs and their quarterly examinations. There
are five key indicators of academic performance, according to Emery (2014):
Student Achievement, discipline referrals, attendance rates and graduation rates.
To better deepen the understanding, this research study have conducted to fully
understand what students have been through based on their academic
performance. Calculating it with certain factors: the students' time management,
attendance to lectures, learning in small groups and etc. that can influence their
academic performance which regards to the change of pace in their learning
education. Student's coping mechanisms are still under development, for it was

only a new start of a new journey to face. Cooperating and engaging in the
activities should be encouraged to ensure the good impact of performance for a
better outcome.

4. Objective
The research paper seeks to achieve its general objective of new face
to face learning modality to the academic performance of Grade 12 Learners of St.
Joseph’s Academy of Bongabong Inc., S.Y. 2022-2023 by focusing on the following
specific objectives:
1. To know the impacts of the new face to face learning system to the
academic performances of student.
2. To analyze the differences between the academic performance of the
student in the face to face classes in distance learning, modular
classes.
3. To seek the relevant factors that affect the grade 12 students academic
performance.
4. To identify the average grade that the student got during the first
quarter of the S. Y. 2021-2022 and S. Y. 2022-2023.
5. To evaluate any significant differences between the academic
performances of the students in the face to face classes and distance
learning modular classes.

5. Research Question
6. How does the impacts of the new face to face learning system to the
academic performance of the students?
7. How does the face to face classes and distance learning, modular
classes affect the academic performance of the grade 12 students?
8. What are the relevant factors that affects the grade 12 students
academic performance?
9. What is the average grade that the students got during the first quarter
of the S.Y. 2021-2022, and S.Y. 2022-2023?
10. Is there any significant differences between the academic performance
of the student in the face to face classes and distance learning, modular
classes?

6. Methodology
Impact of new face to face learning modality are manipulated by
the researcher (as treatments), subjects are randomly assigned to different
treatment levels (random assignment), and the results of the treatments on
outcomes (academic performance) are observed. The unique strength of
experimental research is its internal validity (causality) due to its ability to link
cause and effect through treatment manipulation, to continue to grow a high

or higher education, it only makes sense to know the aspects of learning
modality. Over 2 years of no face to face classes and spending the time with
online and modules, some of the students have experienced stress, anxiety,
depression, lack of sleep and poor eating habits. Which in turn affects their
academic performance and health. Experimental research is best suited for
explanatory research, where the goal of the study is to examine the cause-
effect relationships of the new face to face learning modality and academic
performance. It also works well for research that involves a relatively limited
and well-defined set of independent variables that can either be manipulated
or controlled. As a researcher, the risk of the grades are different before year
2021-2022 and year 2022-2023, achieving their goal to past all the tasks must
be different this year. Every students are his or her individual doings before
they have a high grades.

7. Research Timeline
The project is expected to be completed in 24 weeks with the following
indicated as the activities durations for every section of the research project:
