- Saudi Arabia has strict laws against alcohol
consumption, with offenders facing severe penalties
including flogging.

- With this, Cape Verde becomes the third country in
Africa and the 43rd country in the world to be malaria-
free.
- WHO has also acknowledged Cape Verde's efforts

initiatives, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Previously, in 1973, Mauritius in Africa and in 2019,
Algeria were designated as malaria-free countries.
- Looking at the figures from 2021, that year saw 95%

- Similarly, 96% of deaths due to malaria were also
recorded in Africa.
- It's worth noting that Cape Verde is a group of 10
islands in the mid-Atlantic Ocean.
- It was once severely affected by malaria. - Before the
1950s, malaria had impacted all its islands.
- The use of insecticides had successfully eradicated
malaria from this country twice.
- However, due to errors in vector control in 1967 and
again in 1983, the disease resurfaced.
- Since the peak of malaria cases in the 1980s, the
disease has been limited to only two islands, Santiago
and Boa Vista.
- However, no cases of malaria have been reported in
these two islands since 2017.

malaria-free.
