Negotiation report

(A meeting between the two filmmakers and the directors of Concordia about the
film they’re making together)

Introduction
This report will look at:
o Financial terms
o Film title / location
o Payment instalments
o Director / scriptwriter / music
o Cinematographer / 1st and 2nd camera assistant
o Actors
o Marketing and promotion
o Product placement
o The way the film ends

Financial terms
o Concordia are happy with
the detailed budget we sent them.
o After repaying 100% of Concordia's investment
(€1 million) within five years, we will then
share the net profits of the film on a 60/ 40
basis (60% for us, 40% for Concordia).

Film title / location

o We agreed on Concordia’s title “Friends forever”, because it emphasizes the main theme
of the film, but Paris is still the ideal location for the scenario.

Payment instalments
This is what we agreed on:

o 50% when pre-production begins

o 30% at the start of the production stage
o 10% at the beginning of post-production
o 10% will be reserved for marketing and promotion

Director / scriptwriter / music

o I will be directing the film; Gunnar’s script is perfect so we’re not changing that.
o We agreed to have a highly commercial soundtrack by a famous band. This will add to
the production costs but also to the profits.

Cinematographer / 1st and 2nd camera assistant

o Colleagues from the film-studies course will
undertake the duties of 1st and 2nd camera assistant - fees to be paid from
future profits.
o We agreed on hiring an experienced professional to
be cinematographer.

Actors
o Two of the main characters will be unknown
actors.
o The third main character will be played
by a friend of mine who is a famous
actor in Europe and will perform in the film
for a low fee.

Marketing and promotion

o 10% of the budget will be retained to cover marketing costs.

Product placement
o We agreed on 2-3 product placements in the film since that’s a good opportunity to make
money.

The way the film ends

o We are keeping our ending because it’s important.
o It must be 'bitter
sweet'. None of the three women get what
they want, but their friendship is stronger than
ever. In the final shot, they sit around a table
in a cafe and put their arms around each other.
The camera zooms in, they all have thoughtful
expressions on their faces.
