1. Welcome to the university of Pretoria’s pre-orientation course: towards
becoming a up student

2. This course will help you gear up to be more prepared for every aspect of
the life that awaits you.

3. Please note that this course does not automatically grant you admission into
the University of Pretoria

4. Should you however be accepted at the UP, this course will prepare you for
the orientation and for your first year at UP

5. You need to complete this pre-orientation course online, BEFORE you

register at UP.

If UP is where you want to study, then begin as soon as you can.

6. This course consists of three units.

Each unit is made up of different videos and short assessments. You have
to watch each video and answer its questions before you will be able to
move on to the next video.

7. As many of your interactions during your study at UP will be online, that is

exactly where this course will start.

9. Technology is everywhere! And at UP we take tech quite seriously.

10. In fact, a part of our teaching and learning happens online and during the
COVID-pandemic, completely online. This fact will scare some of you,
others may be overjoyed.

11. Therefore, in this first part we will look at how confident you feel working on
a computer.
We will look at some skills that may assist you in working confidently on a
computer, based on your skills level.

12. You will also be introduced to UP’s online classroom environment called
“clickUP”

14. So, you enjoy reading or perhaps not so much? You like the occasional
novel or cartoon, even a bit of news.

15. University reading however is a whole different ball game! In this part of the
module we will look at:
How a student is expected to read
What academic writing at UP is all about
Grammer in the UP context

17. Money makes the world go ‘round, or so they say.

18. In the last part of this module we will help you take a critical look at money
and what it means to spend wisely and to save.

19. It’s a jungle out there, you better get your money “street-smart” on!

20. We are very excited to have you join us on this journey to becoming a UP
student.
