This document is a student reflection from Lea Mae J. Mejido's BSE 1ENG class at Christ the King College in Magsaysay Balud, Calbayog City. The reflection discusses an article by Leon O Ty titled "it's up to you know" analyzing the successful campaign and landslide victory of Ramon Magsaysay in the 1953 Philippine presidential election. The newspaper article argues that the idea that the United States installed Magsaysay as president, known as the "Magsaysay myth", is not persuasive as US policymakers like Eisenhower remained skeptical of Magsaysay's ability to enact radical change and saw his limitations stemming from inexperience rather than US control.

“Leon O Ty’s “it’s up to you know” and the Magsaysay’s Myth”
Magsaysay’s campaign was overwhelmingly successful. For the
first time in Philippine election history, a president won a landslide victory. November 7, 1953 One evening, Ramon Magsaysay, still a member of President Quirino’s cabinet, called a newspaper reporter. The newspaper argues that the so-called Magsaysay myth, the idea that the United States installed him as president to change its government and policies, is not persuasive. We. Policy makers with experience in the Philippines, including President Dwight D. Eisenhower, remained skeptical that the president could bring about radical change. Rather, his relative incompetence stems from his lack of political experience and systematic resistance to legislative reform.
