MINI LESSON

Distinguishable permutation – arrangements of objects that can be distinguish from one another. There are
objects that are alike or the same. P of n objects where p objects are alike, q objects are alike, r objects are
alike, and so on.
Formula:

p! q!r! …

Example:
1. Finding the number of permutations of the letters in the word STATISTICS.

Solution: There are 10 letters of the word. Assuming that the letters are distinct, there are P (10,10) = 10!
permutations.
However, we have to take consideration that there are;
S=3
T=3
I=2

So we must divide 10! By 3! 3! 2! in order to eliminate the duplicates.
