Relationship of Social Media to the Social Skills of the Students in JFBSHS

Introduction

This chapter presents the data, the respondents and locale of the study, data gathering procedure

and data analysis

Data

The approach to research that will be employed in this study will be qualitative research. The

research that focuses on and gives a greater understanding of the problems that exist in reality is

referred to the term qualitative research. To gain a greater understanding of ideas, attitudes, and

experiences, non-numerical data are gathered and analyzed in qualitative research. In this type of

study, respondents are asked about their personal and social experiences in various life events. Any

type of information that cannot be expressed as a number is considered non-numerical data. The

only way to identify the data is in a word format, which uses symbols and characters.

The qualitative data allows the researchers to gain insight about the perspectives of others and

understand the world from their own point of view. It encourages a more comprehensive

understanding of circumstances, happenings, and activities.

Respondents

The Judge Feliciano Belmonte Senior Secondary School in Quezon City has at least 1500

students enrolled. The study's respondents were chosen from students in the tenth grade, and 150

sample survey questionnaires were made and will be delivered to JFBSHS. The researchers utilized

a fishbowl method of random sampling to choose their responders. The "fishbowl technique" is

when an expert randomly selects a student to respond to test takers and meetings. The benefit of a

fishbowl communication is that it works well with big groups. The distinctions between those

speaking and the listener are also muddled. Open fishbowls are generally seen as being extremely

democratic because anyone is welcome to join in at any moment. The researchers suggest that the

fishbowl approach is suitable to draw a distinction between online entertainment and how pupils

interact with one another.

Data Collection

The term research instrument refers to any tool that you may use to collect or obtain

data, measure data and analyze data that is relevant to the subject of your research. Research

instruments are often used in the fields of social sciences and health sciences. These tools can

also be found within education that relates to patients, staff, teachers and students.

In this study, the researchers will use a survey that we have adapted from the study of

(Chukwuere, 2021 Entitled:the relationship of social media to the social interaction of the

students) the researchers used these questionnaires because it covers the question needed in the

study. The researchers removed the questions that's not necessary in the topic like "indeed, social

media is terrible for the students" and "The use of social media limits time with family, friends

and loved ones".

Due to the advantages of the overall technique, the researchers choose to survey Judge

Feliciano Belmonte Sr High School for their research. For the respondents, the researchers

explain the relevance of their response to the survey. The researchers clarify specific words to

the respondents in order for them to be able to respond to the questionnaire with full awareness

of their duty as the study's subject. The researchers advised the participants to respond honestly.

The researcher chooses at random the sampling units. The researchers agree that this method is

the most appropriate in this study because the specific goal is to determine the association

between virtual entertainment and the understudies' onz how people interact. selecting the

examination sample. The researchers collected and analyzed the data for analysis after the

respondents completed the survey.

One of the main techniques utilized to get data gathered from respondents for this study

included on-site interviews. During the interview phase, the researchers are going to present

questions to the respondents. The discussion is only informally structured and does not strictly

conform to an established list of questions.

Data Analysis

The Pearson correlation coefficient, commonly called the Pearson R or simply the

correlation coefficient, is a statistical measure that quantifies the strength and direction of a

linear relationship between two continuous variables. Pearson R values range from -1 to +1. A

value of +1 indicates a perfect positive correlation, that is, an increase in one variable causes a

linear increase in the other variable. A value of -1 indicates a perfect negative correlation, with

one variable increasing linearly and the other decreasing linearly. A value of 0 means no linear

correlation, indicating no systematic relationship between the variables. The Pearson R

coefficient provides valuable information about the relationships between variables, but only

linear relationships can be obtained. If the relationship is non-linear, the correlation coefficient

may not accurately reflect the strength and nature of the relationship. It's also important to note

that correlation does not imply causation. That is, a strong correlation between two variables

does not necessarily indicate causality between the variables. In our study, we used Pearson R to

determine whether changes in social skills were more likely to occur as 10th grade students

became more engaged with social media. Pearson's R is used to measure the strength and

direction of a linear relationship between two continuous variables. we use this method

because we want to know if there is a correlation between social media and her 10th grade social

skills.
